We enjoyed our 4 night stay here, it was ideal for us with nicely presented accommodation, a well equipped kitchen and a small enclosed rear garden which was fine for the dog. You can also sit in the larger front garden which gets more sunshine. The beach and a decent pub are a short stroll away and there are 2 chippies, shops and a Chinese in the village. Weather was lovely too! Would certainly return.
Just returned from a very relaxing 5 days stay. The cottage is in a great location very close to wonderful coastal walking . There are two shops close by which are very well stocked. Two close by chip shops and a Chinese . Also a lovely cafe not long opened close by that have vegan options so suited us just great.
The cottage is quirky with many original features. The kitchen is very well equipped . It was very homely and cosy.
The back garden is small with no grass but all enclosed , the front is enclosed with a small fence and is lawned and we did sit out
there. Great places to visit and lots of dog friendly pubs. Great for dog walking too.
All in all a wonderful stay and would definitely go back and recommend.
We booked Old Coastguards from the 7th to 11th of May as we were holidaying for the first time with our dog.
The cottage is lovely & in an ideal spot for walks along the coast or through the countryside.
The stairs are very steep but as long as you're careful there shouldn't be a problem.
There is a downstairs bathroom but also a loo upstairs, so no need to be negotiating the stairs through the night.
Kitchen is very well equipped, lots of crockery, cutlery & pans etc & lacking for nothing as far as we could see.
There is a washing machine & a small fridge in the kitchen & also a full sized fridge freezer in the hallway.
We love the way it's furnished, a mix of old & new, quirky but lovely.
The front garden gets sun all day & was great for the dog.
Jane is very quick to respond to messages which is great, as any queries will be answered without delay, not that we had any, everything was more than fine for us.
We really enjoyed our stay & would recommend to anyone, with or without a dog.
What a find! Excellent location, walking distance to the beach. Lovely little village with good amenities. Cottage has everything you need and is warm and cosy whilst being spacious. Some lovely original features. Would not stay here if any member of family struggled with very steep stairs. We will definitely return!
Having been on some European city breaks recently I was looking forward to the tranquility & beauty of Norfolk for a long weekend. I've stayed at Jane & Steve's other property in Mundesley 4 times over the past couple of years & been extremely satisfied (twice on my own, once with a friend & once with my partner). My trip this time was with 2 single friends, so we needed a 3 bedroomed place, I was delighted to learn that Jane & Steve had taken on this cottage, as I knew it wouldn't disappoint. It was perfect for us (2 ladies & 1 man). We ate our breakfast & lunch each day in the back garden, which is a cosy little sun trap. We all found the beds comfortable & the facilities spot on. We managed to park our 2 cars in the parking place (a Mini & a Citroen C3). We walked along the beach to the pub on the first night. We had a lovely walk in the other direction to Happisburgh the next morning (the home made burgers at "Burgers by the Beach" just past the car park were delicious) & took the coastal path back after looking around the village & sampling the beer at The Hill House pub. The Old Vicarage garden at nearby East Ruston was a big hit, as was Horsey beach, where we saw some seals. We also visited Ranworth Broad & I recommend climbing the tower of St Helen's church for the view. We were blessed with fabulous weather for our weekend, which was the icing on the cake. I shall definitely be staying again as I want to return to The Old Vicarage during a different season (it's the best garden I've ever visited) & visit Horsey beach when the seal pups are there.
