“All in all perfect!”

Having searched on line for a place to stay I chose 2 Chapel Lane because it looked well presented and ideally placed for Rutland Water and surrounding towns and villages. I'm fussy and it didn't disappoint. The cottage and village are delightful. The cottage was immaculate and tastefully furnished. The beds were comfortable with high quality linen. Towels, hand soap, hairdryer, tea towel and dvds were all provided. The village has two pubs within walking distance, one with lovely restaurant. There are lovely walks around village. Location perfect for Rutland Water and Stamford. Booking process simple and efficient. Would certainly recommend.

“Perfect weekend away”

A really beautiful cottage in a lovely village with an epic local pub! The cottage was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for a girly weekend away, including a huge selection of DVDs, lovely bathroom and cosy bedrooms. Gillian was such a dream to deal with when booking the cottage and has even posted back possessions we'd left at the cottage. The Railway pub is a 20 second walk from the cottage and is a great drinking pub, really friendly staff and well worth a vist. Stamford was a 10 minute drive away, or you can order a really cheap taxi if you wanted to visit a few bars in Stamford. Would without a doubt recommend Two Chapel Lane to anyone and everyone! We will definitely be back.

“Disappointing for £175 a night!”
Reviewed 13 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

At £175 a night we were expecting a superb luxury high standard of cottage and the pictures on the website on the surface make it look nice, so we were really disappointed when we got there. Unfortunately, the cleanliness, standard of living in the cottage and customer service issues, didn't meet with expectation. We felt we had definitely overpaid for this cottage. The key was not in the safe box for when we arrived as the cleaner had removed it even though we were told it would be there and they should know we were coming. We had to stand around outside for a while and find signal for a phone call which was not what we wanted to do after a long car journey. However, the owner was apologetic and did come within 20 minutes.
In addition, the cleaner also failed to replace toilet roll and although we were advised of this by e mail on day of going, would expect them to sort it out for us rather than tell us we had to buy our own.
For £175 a night there was a lack of attention to detail and several items in the cottage that were lacking or desperately needed replacing. Some of these were thin mattress and could feel springs, washing up liquid had been really watered down which seems silly to try to save money on such a small thing, outside table and chairs very worn and no seat pads available, sun brolley very old, dirty and worn & wooden pole split, mould on seal around bath, bin in bathroom very rusty, cutlery and utensils in kitchen worn and needed replacing, plus overall it was generally grubby and not cleaned properly. On the plus side the courtyard patio has a really nice view of the church and looks nice at night when lit up and is in a very pretty village. It was to celebrate a birthday so unfortunately the many issues for the high price spoiled our holiday, especially when we had looked at other nice cottages for only £80 a night although already booked up.

Thank-you for your review. We appreciate your feedback.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the problems you had while staying at our cottage.

I absolutely agree that cleanliness is paramount and can only apologise that it was not cleaned properly. It’s totally unacceptable and I’m picking it up with the cleaning company we employ. They have a very clear set of guidelines to follow, including replacing toilet rolls, putting the key back in the key safe - and ensuring the cottage is spotless for new guests arriving. These clearly weren’t followed.

Quite why the washing-up liquid had been watered down, I do not know. It’s certainly not something I would advocate and was very definitely not done to save money.

We don’t supply padded seats for the outside chairs, because we found in the past that guests tended to leave them out in all weathers, or spill food on them, meaning they ended up looking very grubby and unusable and constantly needed replacing. We consequently took the decision to not provide them, as we felt this was preferable to dirty seat pads. However, I do accept that the garden table and chairs require a fresh coat of varnish.

The sun umbrella should be in the corner behind the shed and out of sight, although I know it does need disposing and it’s something we need to address urgently.

I will contact you separately via our cottage email address, re which bed it was where you could feel the springs through the mattress. Both are relatively new and came from Marks and Spencer’s - so should be good quality. If there’s a problem and we need to replace one of them I’d really like to know.

I appreciate that on this occasion we failed to live up to the standards we set ourselves for the cottage. I would always like to think our guests came away with positive, happy memories of their stay – but this clearly didn’t happen for you and I can only apologise once again. Clearly I need to review our processes and how we manage the cottage ongoing, with our cottage manager and the cleaning company to ensure we provide a consistently high level of service to our guests.

Regards

Gillian Rolland (owner)
