We stopped in for a glass of wine and were well taken care of. Definitely worth walking around a bit to look at all the memorability on the walls. Friendly, interesting owner.

We visited Barga mainly because we hadn't been there. While walking around the wonderfully hilly town we stumbled into da Aristo to get out of the rain and were immediately in our kind of place, small, a character behind the bar and several locals one of which owned a dog, Meatball. A cat was in a basket covered by a newspaper because he and Meatball had their differences. One beer led to another. Antonella was in the kitchen and had prepared a magnificent thick, steaming lintel soup. Some house wine, quite nice. Then some homemade bruschetta. Giovanni, the character behind the bar, and owner, let my wife cuddle the cat after Meatball made his exit. We went for a moment and stayed 2-3 hours.

da Aristo is a bar, not a restaurant. They do serve food, which is fine for lunch and for snacks to eat with your drink, but for dinner i'd go elsewhere. This bar is in a nice location, at the top of town, at a historic little square (pedestrian area). The interior is nicely decorated, and the owner likes to dress up (see pics). Drinks are fine and the atmosphere was great when we were there. the majority of the visitors (of not all) were tourists, but it's nice to exchange some experiences with fellow travelers. Altogether a nice place, but not as spectacular as some reviews suggest.

Cross between the local Barga theatre (with the owner being the star attraction) and a bar. We stopped in based on Trip Advisor reviews. The place is very simple inside with art renderings of the owner everywhere you looked. His theatrical behavior could keep anyone entertained over a glass of vino or beer. With supplies piled upon most of the tables inside our choices were limited. Though very hospitable the owner insisted on us choosing one, which he cleared off. After the table was dressed with a traditional white/red checked table cover the owner climbed under to stabilize with pieces of cardboard.

We were looking for something light and quick, which is what we got. FANTASTIC Lentil soup, and Polenta with sausage. Could have done without the cat walking around the inside bar waiting to jump into my lap.

We did try again the next afternoon since there were limited places open. Same scene just different guests. Simple, friendly, and entertaining. If you’re looking for a more ‘romantic’ Enoteca there are a few more a bit more upscale in the old city.

dear Hondette, you're really right. In Barga, there are many more elegant places. Aristo is a piece of old Tuscany. There is a family cat, there are people who like to welcome you and talk to guests. then there is good food, simple, genuine and traditional. When you were sitting at a table, you entered the time machine. we do not want to be elegant but true. I hope, finally, that you come back to visit us. By the way, the cat is called Kimma and the tables have to be stabilized because they are over 100 years old. Many greetings.

Happened on this place when all the other places were shut. Pleased they were - it was awesome! Owner and all the staff were lovely. Ate polenta with sausage, caprese salad (super-creamy mozzarella), a platter of salami and cheese, all great. Highly recommend.
