Location stunning. Hotel is grand but VERY tired and the staff are extremely pleasant, cheerful, helpful, professional and efficient.

We had booked an ‘executive double’ via booking.com - our room was at the top of the hotel, nice size but unfortunately no bath which for the price, I would have preferred. The room had a stunning loch view but not if you were seated :/. So no reading a book while occassionally glancing up at the majesty of the Trossachs! The bed was comfy, pillows plumptious, and rooms were serviced daily unless you requested the hotel not to do so because of Covid. We opted to have our room serviced and it was serviced well each day.

Courtesy bathroom pack was disappointingly average - shampoo/bodywash and a small soap, no flannels. Courtesy tray was adequate, two biscuits (one each) and an selection of dried coffee/teabags/sugar/milk, Not really 4 star in either case. We did have robes/slippers for the spa which was nice.

We had booked in for a two night dinner bed and breakfast break. Astronomically expensive and only a £25 ‘allowance’ per person for dinner which was not explained anywhere prior to booking. Was pleasantly surprised to find a dedicated vegan menu, but with not a single atom of protein in any of the dishes, it really wasn’t much cop - Chefs please note: vegetarians and vegans like protein too! Beans, lentils, tofu, quinoa etc., please! We are not carb crazy mutants and these items all appear on the regular non veggie menu. The first night I had the truffle Risotto from the main menu (not vegetarian as it contains parmesan) which was utterly delicious and the second night I had the vegan burger which was so dry and tasteless I could only eat half. My husband had fish both nights and found his dishes, delicious.

Breakfast again was not hugely veggie friendly… the veggie breakfast consisted of a sausage made from mashed potato and herbs, a hash brown, two potato cakes, fried egg, tomato, mushrooms, Massive amount of potatoes, hardly any protein. No other veggie choices other than bread products, fruit, cereal with no vegan milks or yoghurts and the cheese was on the same platter as the ham with the same serving implements - very bad.

Disappointed to discover that the ‘spa’ is only a selection of treatment rooms rather than the thermal spa which can be found in other Macdonald Hotels we have stayed in over the years (ie: Bath) .. The swimming pool is in a different block - not conducive to a relaxing ‘spa break’ and there was a spa pool (jacuzzi) by the pool. We did not use any of those facilities.

In short, the staff made this hotel. Without them it’s a bit shabby, and a bit tired, and certainly not worth the exorbitant room rate we paid. The food was delicious and service efficient. All in all a nice stay but for the lack of nutritional value for veggies and vegans.

Room tip: In some rooms the loch view which you pay handsomly for, can only be seen when you’re standing up!

The staff were so friendly and we loved the apartment we stayed in! We had a horrendous journey to Scotland, car trouble, but once we arrived, it was paradise and we didn’t want to leave!! Wonderful! Reza on reception was so helpful and sorted every question we had and EVERY staff member was so friendly…they would even stop and chat or say hello when they were clearly off work and on their own time. Honestly, the place is like a different world. No rudeness, it’s away from the rest of society’s nonsense, just what we needed. Aberfoyle is a short car journey away with shops and a coop for groceries. We have already booked again!!

Excellent place to stay and relax or visit surrounding area. After being an owner here for 13 years still love the place and are finding more and more things to see and do. I would recommend a visit to Safari park and Ledyard Farm which is next door.David Marshal also recommended and 3 lochs trail

This is a beautiful location in Scotland and should have been a great experience. The holiday was ruined by poorly maintained accommodation, lack of and rude staff, bistro and bar being shut and what drinks you could get being over priced.

We had a beautiful loch view room ( worth asking for) with balcony so as weather was excellent we could have a drink overlooking a beautiful scene. Staff were friendly and courteous. It was evident that staffing was a problem in that each day we saw different people in charge of the restaurant - some better than others. The evening meal was excellent even though it was a reduced menu. The breakfast however was not so good - it should be easy enough to cook bacon, egg etc but it was over cooked and dry on both days. Also no kippers or smoked haddock on the menu for breakfast - I would have expected at least one of them in a four star hotel. On the second day the buffet had not been replenished and if you had been looking for continental breakfast then you would have been disappointed. They had run out of orange juice also! All in all a lovely stay but they need to get a grip on the kitchen management for breakfast.

Room tip: Ask for a loch view
