We liked very much the atmosphere, the environment and the friendly and helpful staff! Good dinner food for kids. Nice walks at the beach and lovely village of Domburg nearby. The beach is just behind the castle garden. The museum is also worth a visit!

Stayed here 20 years ago. Returned recently and was pleasantly surprised. This is a fantastic "hostel" in a converted castle. The grounds are beautiful and inviting. The hostel rooms are clean and well maintained. There are various common areas outside on the terraces, as well as small bar inside. Bikes available for rent, and the beach is a 5 minute walk on well maintained trails through the woods. The food leaves something to be desired - rather cafeteria mess - but it is convenient if you don't want to go into town and breakfast was quite good. Easy bike ride from Domburg or Oostkapelle proper for nicer dinner if desired. Highly recommend over staying in town!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the grounds towards the beach. Not a sea view, but still lovely.

While visiting from the US, my husband and I took our Dutch grandchildren (aged 6 and 7) to the castle for a quick getaway in late April. The weather was cold and windy and rainy, but we enjoyed a few moments in the sunshine, but most of the time playing board and card games inside the cozy castle. The employees were most gracious and accommodating; the food was tasty and plenty. The children thought it was a cool
place and would like to return when we have more time and sunshine! Also, check out the museum just a few steps from the castle!

Stayed here a few times and it's always been great. Nice location, close to the woods and the shore and not far from the city center either. Perfect for walks. You can rent bikes at the hostel, too. Breakfast is very basic, there's room for improvement there compared to the other Stayokay hostels and not too much choice, but the quality is fine. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and I love the peace and quiet around the hostel. There are however some large groups of children there quite frequently, so there can be a lot of noise inside.
Parking is a bit expensive, and the parking lot isn't very close to the castle, so you have to carry your luggage quite far. Don't take heavy suitcases and you'll be fine!

Special building, great location, average interior and athmosphere.
The place has a midieval look at first, if it where not for the school classes that were running around the premises at the time we were there.

The location is great, a 5 minute walk to the beach.

The kitchen is non existing, there is something called diner but it is on the level of an school mess.

Though it is a hostel, it does not have cooking facilities.

Staff is (mostly) very nice and helpfull ,though some of them do not have the hospitality attitude you would hope for in tourism.

If your expectations are limited and if you are lucky concerning the groups it is a good place to stay on a budget.

As a hostel, Stayokay Domburg is accommodated in a truly exceptional building: Westhove Castle. This 13th-century castle, complete with turrets and a moat, is at walking distance from the beach. The hostel's rooms are both in the main building of the castle and in one of the two carriage houses. The castle was fully renovated in 2004, but has retained its nostalgic atmosphere, including the bar, of course. The two terrace cafes offer a fantastic view of the surrounding dune landscape. ... more   less
