The rural location near the sea is very beautiful. The hostel is housed in a very well maintained seventeenth-century castle with a moat.
We arrived on a summer evening. The room on the west side of the castle was very hot and could not be effectively ventilated because the building lacks mechanical ventilation and the windows cannot be opened wide. We had to sleep with the door ajar. Consequently we were kept awake all night by parties and by drunken guests stumbling into our room. In the morning we were woken up early by drunken guests urinating out of their windows into the moat. If that sort of thing doesn't bother you then this hostel is highly recommended.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- As a hostel, Stayokay Domburg is accommodated in a truly exceptional building: Westhove Castle. This 13th-century castle, complete with turrets and a moat, is at walking distance from the beach. The hostel's rooms are both in the main building of the castle and in one of the two carriage houses. The castle was fully renovated in 2004, but has retained its nostalgic atmosphere, including the bar, of course. The two terrace cafes offer a fantastic view of the surrounding dune landscape. ... more less
