One of the largest monastery complexes in the Benelux region, when I was there had an international group of monks, very large and well kept, retains the feeling of a monastery, mix with an arts-activity centre - staff very pleasant, restaurant very nice (fairly expensive, limited choice but nice, including beer made at the monastery) - big buffet breakfast - a short walk from the rooms to the restaurant and reception, but easy parking and can drive between the car park and the reception

Room tip: If you want your own shower, take the 'standard room' (the comfort room has a shared toilet-shower with 6 rooms)

We arrived at Abdij Rolduc fairly stressed out, looking for calm and a good rest, away from city noice. Yes, it is a converted monastery and does not offer some of the comforts of a modern Hotel, but we had booked a room with a bathroom, asked for a hairdryer at reception and all was well. Our visits to Aachen were wonderful, but we appreciated coming back to the Abbey after a busy day, sitting in the courtyard garden, drinking a glass of wine. We do recommend booking for dinner, especially on a rainy day, as food is not served outside. Our short visit to the Abbey was a perfect start to a relaxing holiday.

Room tip: Choose a room with bathroom, if you don't like sharing!

Very nice, relaxing and beautiful place, wifi all over the hotel, nice bedrooms but no haidryer and no refrigerator. There is a nice church in the hotel. The food was ok, breakfast was better! Nothing much to say!

The location and the building is wonderfull, but the rooms are old, and many rooms have no toilets. Even worse, the mastress are old and saggy. What a pitty! But I guess that better rooms would be more expensive. So you get what you pay for.

Dear Mr. Ajtyer, I am sorry to read your comment. We have 2 different roomtypes: economy rooms and comfort rooms. The comfort rooms have their own bathroom with toilets. Maybe an idea for the next time?

Stayed here for 3 nights over the Easter weekend. The hotel is in a beautiful setting and only 15-20 minutes walk from the centre on Kerkrade. However, on balance I would not stay here again as the poor quality mattress on the bed put my back out. This meant I was in a lot of pain, and could barely walk for 1 day of our holiday.

The hotel staff did their best to help out, and put a plank under the mattress for us. They even offered for us to switch rooms if the problem was not resolved. However, the damage was already done and our weekend was rather spoiled by this.

Also a tip if you do decide to stay .... bring an eye mask to sleep in if you like a dark room! We were in a room at the front of the hotel, where there are bright lights to illuminate the building. Our curtains did not come to the bottom of the window so as you can imagine it was still rather bright.
