Well equipped comfortable rooms and a fabulous restaurant. Simply a delight to stay here and use it as base to explore the island. Close enough to walk to the ferry but not on the more lively bar strip so quiet. The owner is charming and welcoming. Do ask to visit his kitchen garden and perhaps have lunch there.

Do rent an electric bike. They will deliver your luggage and it much eases the journey around the island

Room Tip: We booked the Bridal suite which as big and very comfortable

I recently spent a lovely weekend at Hotel Caracol. We stayed in the Lamsoor Suite, which was a beautiful room at the front of the hotel. The room was a nice size - not too spacious but not too cramped either. And it was very bright. The only downside of the room is that due to its location, it can be a bit noisy at night. The owner of the hotel, Werner, was extremely hospitable and made us feel welcomed. He manages the place beautifully, as the staff are also hospitable and well trained. The only improvements that I could suggest about the hotel is that it would have been nice if you could have requested a later breakfast time, as it was difficult to make the 10am cutoff if one slept in. Also, perhaps the option of breakfast in the room would have been nice. Lastly, some stuff in the room seemed a bit gimmicky - for example, the adjustable beds. They were unnecessary and I would have preferred something more useful, like an iPod dock in place of them. But otherwise, the place is delightful and we will DEFINITELY go back.

We stayed two nights at Caracol in July. We booked the Kamer Koriander (Bruidsuite) for two nights through their homepage, and afterwards reserved the flight tickets, as well as boat tickets from Harlingen to Terschelling.

The following day I sent an email to the hotel, inquiring if they could also make dining reservations for us. They then responded, but informed that there had been a mistake on their homepage and the Bruidsuite was after all not available for two nights, those given dates. As we had already made the payment and booked the other tickets, we therefore had to for the second night move to the Kamer Lamsoor (with sauna). With this experience in mind, I strongly recommend you contact the hotel to secure your booking, although having booked through their homepage, before making other travel bookings.

The owners were very accommodating though, and it would have been possible to stay only one night, but we wanted to spend one full day just biking around the island, so we then decided to stay in two different rooms, as also the flights and boat tickets were already paid for.

This aside, we had a lovely stay. We still would have preferred staying only in the Bruidsuite, as it was more spacious and more to our liking than the other room(s). Thus I would recommend the Bruidsuite over the others, if you like to have more space for moving around.

You can rent bikes at various places on the island, but Caracol recommended Tijs Knop. Two standard 7-gear bikes, for two days, cost 28€. Due to the inconvenience caused with the room hassle, Caracol though agreed to take the costs for the bikes, which showed good customer service from their end.

The first evening we ate at De Zee, serving basic food. Cosy atmosphere in a small restaurant, with very attentive personnel. Two drinks as appetizers, two starters and main courses, together with glasses of wine, summed up to 75€.

The second evening we ate at Caracol, which was a culinary delight. If eating there only once, I suggest you do it the last evening, “saving the best for last”, as it will probably be difficult to find many better places on the island. We had the tartar and pigeon breast as starters, the sea bass and cannelloni as main courses, and as deserts their chocolate surprise and the cranberry sorbet. This together with appetizers, wine as well as cognac and Baileys as nightcaps, summed up to 165€. Excellent food, beautifully displayed... definitely worth it.

The location of the hotel is great, situated on a silent street. Everything functioned properly in the rooms and the Hästens beds were lovely. When going through the reviews of the different hotels on Terschelling, this was really the preferred place for us, based on its style and being newer/renovated.

The island has long beaches, good biking routes in the nature (amongst lambs, horses, cows...), there are low and high tides, you may be able to spot sea lions, and the island seems to be rich in cranberries, as this you will be able to find in many of the dishes on the island.

PS. If you will leave your car in Harlingen, remember in advance to check out the various parking options. We left ours at the Parkeergarage Veerterminal, which is just a minute's walk from Rederij Doeksen, and thus convenient if you are taking the fast ferry over to Terschelling.

Room Tip: The room Koriander (Bruidsuite) is the most spacious one.

Enjoyed our 3-day stay. Only a few blocks from the ferry dock and close to restaurants and shops. The room was small but well-appointed, however very little storage to unpack a bag. More thought could have been invested in designing the steam shower drain, a self-service squeegee on a pole was a surprise! Nice breakfast service downstairs, friendly staff.

What a lovely little hotel! All the amenities you would expect PLUS many more. The rooms were very comfortable, well appointed, stylishly furnished and had some very pleasant little additional touches that made it a memorable stay. In addition, once you were in the room, there was no outside noise from other guests, despite the beautiful natural wood floors.
The welcome was warm and friendly and the staff were happy to provide extra information about local events and places of interest.
The restaurant menu made the most of the island's fresh produce and the meal was beautifully presented whilst the service was efficient and unobtrusive. A pure delight all round and highly recommended.
