“Absolutely perfect in every way”

This hotel is a real gem! The owner Catia is so attentive and hands-on in the day-to-day operations of the hotel. The restaurant is delicious, we loved our breakfast and dinner. The indoor and outdoor pools are clean and beautiful. There is a castle/fort on the property where we had an incredible eight course dinner and we were treated to a classical music concert the next evening. The view from the patio of the town and mountains will take your breath away. Make sure to visit the spa for one of their wonderful massages. I highly recommend this beautiful hotel. You will feel rejuvenated and relaxed after your stay.

Where should I start? Maybe the friendly welcome by the Tàpies family (who run own the hotel), or the stunning views over Pyrenees, or maybe the amazing castle & annex where the hotel is situated. Let's do the spa instead: hot tubs with views over the mountains, a great pool, nice saunas... And then there's the amazing restaurant, with a lovely breakfast (again with great views), and which serves a dinner to remember. The small town of Seu d'Urgell is also only a walking distance away.

For sports between the relaxation, this place is impeccable. You can go running along a nice river, through the Olympic park & through the old town. The hotel provides mountain bikes and instructions for hikes too.

The attention to detail, the genuine friendliness of the staff and the spacious, beautiful rooms combine to make this one of my favourite hotels of all time.

My husband, 3 children and I spent four wonderful nights at El Castell. The Tapies family (owners) and staff were very warm, friendly and helpful and made every effort to ensure our relaxing and enjoyable stay in the Pyrenees. The views are spectacular from every vantage point, the rooms, terrace, indoor dining room, outdoor pool, hot tubs, etc. We enjoyed biking, hiking and walking to town. (There is a very festive and surprisingly large market, for a relatively small town, on Saturdays.) The hotel has 2 beautiful indoor and outdoor pools, both of which are very relaxing and large enough for swimming laps. The hotel offers a wonderful spa which we took advantage of. We dined for breakfast and dinner on the terrace which provides a breathtaking view of the mountains. The buffet breakfast offered a wonderful selection of fresh meats, cheeses, fruit, eggs, bacon, cereal etc. and delicious breads which changed daily. For dinner we enjoyed the wide variety of dishes which were beautifully prepared and delicious.
We also appreciated the services that were included-breakfast, the minibar which is replenished each morning, the use of the bicycles,,,
The guests were from many different countries and we marveled at the staff's ability to switch languages effortlessly to converse with them.
This is indeed a very special place. It is an easy drive from Barcelona and great for a weekend visit or a longer getaway.

Having stayed here on numerous occasions it is always a pleasure to return. The hotel has been able to maintain the atmosphere of a well run family hotel over many years and whilst some things have changed it has not affected the warm welcome which always greets old and new clients alike. Staff are polite, friendly and keen to help, as are management.
The facilities are as good as any smaller hotel could provide and whilst the town of Seu d`Urgell is not the usual "tourist" type of place one could rave about, it has something special about it which is well worth investigating and is full of character.
Anyone in the area, either touring or on a longer stay could do a lot worse than use this hotel which is situated in a special part of Spain.

Room Tip: Bedrooms are first class with beautiful views. The swimming pool charming and the fitness areas prov...

We traveled there as a gay couple. We stayed there for two nights escaping the traffic, the heat and the hassle of Barcelona.

We first read about this hotel on the internet. We felt like it would be nice to go there based on some reviews of tripadvisors. The staff left us a welcome note in the room expecting us to be a straight couple which was funny and made us laugh but it was really nice to be upgraded to a room with a balcony. The rooms upstairs have dark a corridor and it seems that no one is staying there, eventhough it's high season!.. The restaurant downstair was closed but the one up on the level of the reciption was open and has a nice view to the city and some green fields. It offers indoor and outdoor dining. The staff was superfriendly. The restaurant was a bit overpriced, but the food was delicious and the service was excellent.

Although Spain is gay friendly almost everywhere but we felt like being NOT welcome by some guest, mostly from UK, whispering to each other : 'they're gays!'...
Some guests, families with small children, were realy 'taking over' the pool and jaccuzzi behaving like families with children sometimes do: "it's their right to do what they want because they have children", without consideration of others!

The hotel was built in the 70's but everything was very well taken care of and maintained. The room was a bit dark but thanks for the light from the terrace! Nicely furnished room. The TV has lots of channels including international stations. Missing a waterboiler in the room. The outdoor pool was very nice with plenty of sunbeds. Missing the possability to order light snacks like sanwhiches and salads around the pool. The gym is quite small but well-equiped.

We enjoyed a walking tour in the city center, which has a very nice old town and church. The region have lots of options for walkingtours and offers spectacular scenery.
