Poor facilities, no toilets or ice cream stands. Just kidding!
An easy 25 minute walk from our hotel to the path that heads up. An easy climb even for a slightly overweight 50 something. 360 degree view and walk around the rim was lovely. Paths are dusty so be prepared to be covered in a find red dust, a little slippery in places but you don’t need hiking boots… just don’t wear flip flops unless taking one of the steeper routes which require a bit of scrambling. Take water and sunscreen and be prepared for some wind!
It’s a nice hike. Not difficult to walk but you need trainers or non-slippery shoes. The weather was perfect. Sunny, warm (not too warm), and also a bit windy. The view is spectacular.
How to get there: Find the H. Paradise Island (hotel). Same street as the Jardines del Sol by Diamond resorts. If you’re in front of the H. Paradise island just cross the street and walk down the road. This will lead you to the foot of the mountain.
Walk up on the mountain. Around it and go down inside the volcano 🌋 then you’ll get a good walk. Might be lucky to see local birds. 🦅
Simply a Great walk
It’s easier going up than down as you’re walking on a lot of loose volcanic rock.
I went early morning and took a hoody but I didn’t need it as it was warm and obviously breezy
Make sure you take the well worn paths. Our first attempt (following other crazy people!) was treacherous! Rock climbing and dangerous. Then we tried again another day using the main pathways. A tough uphill walk, but once you’re up there it’s definitely worth it. A steady walk around the crater. Amazing views. So quiet. Look for Berthelot's pipits up there. Sturdy footwear. From our hotel (Timanfaya Palace) to the top is less than an hour (though we walk slow)
The views were amazing, watched the sunrise from the top of the volcano and was well worth it- the crater is fascinating to look at, don’t worry it’s been filled in.
Great walk and great views, just be careful if high winds! Nice hour or so walk from Flamingo Beach.
Good shoes recommended :)
