Perfect if you are staying nearby and need to walk off the calories. I took my 9 year old with me first time and then did it solo. Only takes 15 mins to get up and then can stroll around the top as long as you wish. Wear good walking shoes/ trainers and coming down is slippy

Takes about 30 mins to climb up with the kids. Spectacular views at the top are the reward. Watch out as it is very windy at the top.

A couple of ways up but the easiest is from C. España, 3, 35580 Playa Blanca, Las Palmas, Spain (taken from google maps).

Great walk up Montaña Roja.
It took around 20 minutes from the base to the top of the crater. You can then walk around and through the crater which took around 45 minutes.

We then walked back to playa blanca, total walk time around two hours (this included time for photos/snacks). The walk itself is fairly easy but the ground is very rocky throughout so good trainers or walking shoes are needed.

It was very windy at the top but totally worth the views. Our eight year old loves volcanos and he coped with the walk well.

We set off around 8.30am which was perfect as it was warm on the way back. We took lots of water and snacks as there are no facilities.

We were dating the other side of playa blanca so the walk to the mountain took longer than actually walking up the mountain. The walk itself wasn’t very challenging but it was very windy up there so struggled to even take photos. The views are great and the track around the crater is fairly easy. Nothing to write home about but glad we did it.

Lovely views from the top. A modest walk up, some loose rocks but ok in sensible footwear. I found it easiest to access from Calle Los Clavelles, path up the volcano is signed
