The lady running my B&B in a nearby village sent me to “La Table Champenoise” in Beaumont sur Vesle which did pizza and home made desserts. It was a Monday night and most restaurants are shut. I tried the Champenoise to avoid a trek back into Reims.
Parking was either side of the road outside which was once the main through road but is now a dead end.
The operators have been in the restaurant for only a few months and are enthusiastic and energetically trying to build a sound business. The pizza was average but the dessert was superb. The problem with the pizza was the dough base that was too thick and hard; the overall result was dry. However the desserts are all home made by Madame and I wished that I'd had desserts only as the one I had was so good. The French took the crumble from the British and have embellished the recipe to make variants of great finesse and I had one such.
I drank glasses of the local champagne which was an additional pleasure.
There was wifi which enabled me to do some essential internet actions as I ate.
My view is that this is not a destination restaurant but a reasonable fail-safe.
