Good food and service. Small, local and friendly. A pub with a restaurant vibe. Nice beer selection too!!

We stopped off in our way to a weekend away and just wanted a quick lunch! To start it is a really traditional country pub! Everything you'd expect with a great atmosphere and ambience. The menu had a great variety and I opted for the fish goujon panini (a glorified name for fish finger butty) and it was so much more than a fish finger butty. The fish was amazing and the salad was really fresh. The chips and onion rings were amazing and at a reasonable price. All washed down with a Guinness and we were on our way!

Had the Sunday roast here, really impressed with the speed of service and the food tasted amazing even though was end of the day when we ate. Definitely going out for sunday lunch more often and we'll be coming here.

The waiting on staff were lovely and polite. Main meal came and yes acceptable. Could have done with more steak in the steak, mushroom and merlot pie with little onions that weren't present. Gammon was good, asked if the salmon and stir fry could just be salmon with chips still charged over £14 quid! Ordered creme brûlée x3 with Viennese whirl etc..OMG came with two shop bought shortbread fingers and what looked like scrambled egg!! Sugar on the top not melted....urgh sent it back then got apology and complimentary wine. Which was nice but not feeling well the day after!! More toilet visits than normal! Oh dear!!

Lovely walk from Halton to Caton along the old railway line past the Crook of Lune.
Lovely Caton beer then Fish and Chips for two, including a glass of wine each for £20.
Lovely fish crispy batter and a very generous portion.
Lovely walk home in the dusk, brown trout rising in the river.
Lovely.
