There’s a lack of accommodation in Tekapo and, despite not being typical clients of a backpackers hostel, we booked to stay. We were given a very warm reception from James who showed us around and gave us lots of information. Room 14 was basic, just the beds and built in shelves large enough for luggage, no chairs or bedside tables but clean and comfortable. The shower room was fine although the washbasin was quite small and there was no plug. The kitchen facilities were good and the laundry room was very handy. A couple of $ to was and 50c for powder or hand wash and fro dry. The gardens were lovely to relax in with plenty of benches and shade. At night it was quiet and peaceful. Our only negative, and this is no criticism of the hostel. was that the typical backpackers ie young people, didn’t acknowledge us or even say hello. Not sure if they resented older people encroaching on their space or did we just remind them of their parents?

Delightful country stay. Beautiful surroundings and garden to sit and read in. Great kitchen and bathroom facilities (including heaters in bathrooms) comfortable mattresses and high quality sheets. Can be a tad noisy at night when people walk around but it’s not a party hostel. Make sure to visit the chickens.

One of the best backpacker I've ever been, the staff is very friendly, the room was clean and tidy with our own nice bathroom. You have a lot of games, outdoor and indoor to keep you occupy if you have nothing else to do or after a long day, and plenty animals around like chickens, rabbits and even a cat for pets lovers. A little bit expensive for a backpacker but it's worth it.

We snagged, though airbnb, the two person cottage with its own toilet and shower. The main house has the kitchen and two communal refrigerators. Lots of hustle and bustle in the kitchen. We tend to hang out by ourselves, but there is a wonderful vibe to this place and it run by the nicest most helpful of ladies who pointed us to Mt John for the view, two early morning easy treks at Aoraki (some call it Mt Cook) so we avoid the oppressive heat, some shaded walks for midday, and a place for great stone cooked meat

Room tip: Since it is a hostel there is wide range of lodgings. They list several with airbnb

Ì stayed at this hostel recently and absolutely loved it. The place has a lot of character and charm. The decoration in the common spaces is lovely, the rooms are clean and bright, it is very clean and super friendly.

I stayed there by chance as it was the only room i could find for those dates in the whole region. Bu it was a lovely surprise and had they had availability i would have come back to stay again! Definitely recommend.
