I would like to start off with some positive to this hostel first being it's location it beautiful right in front of lake tekapo. It's also close to the hot springs and hiking trail up mt john and the staff were very friendly. And the social area is lovely. However I stayed in a 4 man dorm which was so small we couldn't open our suitcase and have enough room to walk. There were no reading lights just the one bedroom light meaning we couldn't turn a light on without waking someone, only 2 charging points in a room for 4. Personally the price doesn't reflect facilitates compared to other hostels which are cheaper and much better.

The place is very nice with a great tv area and kitchen but at $33 a night, it is a bit expensive for a dorm room. The beds are comfortable enough and everything is up to the right standard. You can drink in the hostel which is a bonus but you have to pay for wifi and that is also expensive. On the plus side, there is a lovely little cat that wonders around called velveteen who is very soft and very sweet.

Hi

Thanks for taking time to comment on your stay with us.

Glad you found our sleeping facilities cosy and comfortable.

Unfortunately we are unable to provide free wifi as we don't have Optic Fibre internet available in Tekapo. Because of that we just don't have the capacity to provide free to the whole park. Hopefully one day it will come our way and I can you guarantee we will jump at it.

Glad you meet our wee camp cat Velveteen. Did you see our ginger boy called Hannibal. He is a delight too. Most of our customers just love them.

We hope to see your again.

Cheers
Wendy

Room was very tight for 4 to move around. Bed was comfortable. Lounge area was comfortable and great place to hang out. I was also impressed that despite I was late all the necessary items (key, map with markings) has been prepared for me.

Very small rooms but to literally just sleep in they're fine. Beds were comfy and the duvet was proper feathered thick duvet.

Showers were so clean, everything looked brand new. Kitchen was great, lots of cook tops, everything works and plenty of cutlery and kitchenware to use.

Lounge area kept warm with log fire and TV with films on to watch.

Great hostel, right on the lakefront too. Nothing much to do there however, few walks here and there with great scenery

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to give us such a great review.

Glad you enjoyed your stay here in the Backpackers Lodge. It is a fabulous spot there tucked in by the lake front.

We have been doing a lot of upgrading in that area.
Sounds like it has been worth the effort.

We hope to see you again.

Cheers

The lodge was situated in a great area as it was close to the mount john walk track and of course the lake. To get to town you had to walk 15 minutes along the lake, which is a scenic walk in itself. The rooms were tidy but there were only 2 plugs, which was unconventional. Kitchens were clean and well looked after. When I had problems I didn't not know who to ask, as there wasn't any indication on who worked there. The receptionist was welcoming when we arrived and the cats were lovely. Overall an enjoyable stay!
