“Nothing to write home about but was ok for kids!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2011

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights beginning of October. We had been staying with family in the south of France and decided to visit Spain. We called at the Taurus and there was rooms available which we got for a great price. £230ish for 2 adults and 1 child with full board which we were impressed with. Even got a pool view with a bit of a sea view. The pools were great and my son really enjoyed himself. Rooms were average, we had 2 single beds in one room and a double bed in the other. Biggest let down was that there was no sofa or mini fridge so we couldn't really sit anywhere comfortably when the little one went to bed. The weather was gorgeous on a night though so we could sit on the balcony. Food was nice but again nothing outstanding. The breakfasts were nice though and we were happy they did crepes as that is what all that my son would eat! He is extremely fussy when it comes to food and there was nothing in the buffet that he would eat. That is not a reflection on the hotel as there was plenty of variety just he lives on yorkshire puddings and chicken! The management were kind enough to get him some plain chicken cooked every night which was nice of them.

Sadly the beach in the resort was rubbish, the sand was like grit so no sandcastle making on this holiday and the sea was just a drop so no wading out for my son. I realise that this is because it is just a man made beach but I think most beaches in the costa brava are like this.

Pineda itself was a bit tired at parts, there is a nice fountain and a road train. Shops have the usual tacky items and seemed a bit pricey. We took the train (the train line is right next to the beach which is quite bizarre) to Barcelona for the day which was hard work with a young child in a buggy. He was bored, but well behaved, bless him. We went on the open top buses and drove around looking at the sights, we enjoy the cathedral but couldn't get in because of the massive queues.

We also had a trip to Figueres which was beautiful, highly recommended. We had a hire car and only problem with Figueres is most of the hotels don't really have parking (we had a night there before we flew home) We visited the Salvador Dali museum, I was happy as last time I was there was 20 years ago and Dali is my fave artist. My son really enjoyed that which I was quite surprised about.

The good thing I like about Spain is that under 14's travel free on public transport (unlike under 5's in the UK) then when they reach 14 they pay adult fare which I think is really good. Also the museum was free to under 14's too, again really good and I think a lot of places like that are the same.

We also went to the Medieval Knights which was a total let down. We were told it was a 20 minute drive away on the coach but weren't told that the coach would be doing a round trip picking up other passengers and would take 2 hours to get there. By the time we got there we were all fed up, my son was shattered. To make it worse, we had to wait outside to get our tickets and the lady who was bringing us out gave our tickets to someone else and by the time we got in half an hour later the show had already started and we had a very poor view after watching coach loads of people go in ahead of us despite the fact we had arrived before them. Very expensive night (£150 altogether) as we ended up taking a taxi back to the hotel after the first show as my son was way too tired after the long coach ride. We only saw an hour of the show for our money. We wish we had been told the coach was going to take 2 hours as we would have taken the hire car and might have even enjoyed the night. So if anyone is going, don't go on the coach, either take your own car or go in a taxi. 20 euros each way from the Taurus.

Not the best holiday but wasn't all bad I have been on but we really enjoyed travelling around in a hire car and got to see a lot more then you normally see on a package holiday.

Room Tip: Bear in mind there is no living area, the beach is rubbish for kids. Quiet resort with no nightclub...

This year was our fourth time to Golden Taurus Park, and I don't think it will be the last!!!

All the staff were fantastic as always, and considering the amount of people they get "through the door", to be remembered is great.

The whole hotel is spotless with cleaners working somewhere all through the day.

A lot of people who review this hotel complain about the food, well 2 out of our party were fussy eaters and always managed to find something to eat - if you can get the Thomson Full Board for Half Board deal, take it, its worth having the lunch there if you want it.

Location wise the hotel is a few minutes walk outside of a typical WORKING Spanish town - if you want non-stop bars and clubs, try Callela or Lloret, not Pineda. The noddy train (land train) will stop outside of the hotel and takes you to Callela in one direction and into Pindea the other way, its quite cheap too, especially if you don't fancy the walk.

The cheapest way to get to Lloret is on the train, but the nicest way by far is on the DofiJet boat, which stops at every coastal town on the way down to Tossa De Mar. One piece of advice though, if you do go on DofiJet, make sure you get back to the beach in plenty of time to catch it back, especially if its the last one), we heard rumours of people being left behind in Lloret because there wasnt space on the boat, and this was at the end of September.

If you fancy going to do some proper market shopping a visit to Tordera market is a must, but if you really want plenty of time to have a good look around, then the best way to do it is by train, and it only costs about 4 euros as compared to the 18 euros that Thomson wanted. From the train station the market is about a ten minute walk, but dont worry, you wont get lost as there will be plenty of people going in the same direction, if youre lucky you might get a seat on the minibus for 50 cents which will take you to the roundabout in town, just across the road. If you've never been to Tordera its worth it just for the experience - there are stalls selling everything, and I mean everything including baby chicks. If you do go to the market, go early! As with every crowded place, watch your bags and money, though we never heard of any incidents, its better to be safe.

This year the hotel was classed by Thomsons as a Kidzone hotel, which meant that sadly the kids entertainment wasnt a patch on previous years, only having 2 kids reps all week - Happy Feet Hayley and Sunshine Sas however did a fantastic job of keeping the kids amused!!!

The Animation Team run by the hotel were great, with loads of organised activities every day for adults and kids, some of the activities are a good chance to try things that you perhaps have never tried, they do archery, rifle shooting, pistol shooting, french boules as well as the usual football, tennis, badminton and mini golf. The mini club for kids was run by Jess again this year, and she was as good as ever - we love you Jess!!! The kids had themed parties and activities on certain days - Spanish Day, Oriental Party and Pirate Party as well as having other activities like football, bowling and mini golf. The mini discos at night are great with some good 'party' songs and dances, where the Animation Team dress as clowns on stage. The team are generally joined by the hotel mascot "Goldy" every night for a couple of dances.

Last but definitely by no means least, a special mention has to go out to two fantastic ladies who work at the hotel, one is Charlotte who works on Reception, a proper British lass who is so fluent in Spanish its scarey!!! The other being the amazing and wonderful "guest relations" Kelli, who sometimes does the mini disco as well towards the end of season..... if you have ANY problems at all these lovely ladies will do whatever they can to help - see you soon girls xxxx

Remember though, as Pineda is typically a working town rather than a tourist town the majority of shops may close for siesta

Room Tip: Family Suites are great for families with kids!!!! If you don't want the noise from Habana Bar...

I did stay at the Hotel and to be fair it does state in the brochure Family, so I have nothing negative to say in that regard. I am a solo traveller I did not quite expect it be be so built around children but it is, and for a solo traveller in this hotel you stick out quite a bit.

The bar staff were friendly and accommodating and inspite of the endless kids asking them for lollipops they always seem to keep a smile on their face.

The Food, was not great really, I ate breakfast and occasionally lunch but ate out most nights as the food was not that good and hot food was warm, which always bothers me, so stuck to salads a lot.

As I say the entertainment revolved around kids really which is great for the families and they seem to love it and have a good time.

The room was fine - I did ask the room maid for an extra couple of blankets to put on the bed as the mattress was so hard my back was giving me agony and she did eventually leave them but they didn't help much.

The area around the hotel is lovely - have been to Pineda before and it's a lovely stroll to shops and the like and has a little tourist train that stops just along side the hotel to pick up and take to Calella and not much to pay either.

just got back from a 10 night holiday to the golden taurus park hotel in pineda del mar.
we went all inclusive, and i dont know where they get there idea of all inclusive from, but i can tell you it was not all it promised to be.
you got your 3 sittings in the restaurant, the same as everybody else.
you could have beer/tea/coffee/water and a few other drinks free, but most of the drinks you have to pay a percentage towards them.
secondly, if you wanted a snack from the snack bar you could only get them free between the hours of 10am to 12.00 midday, then 16.00pm to 18.00pm, then 22.00pm to 23.00pm, outside of these times you have to pay full price.
so my tip of the day is, avoid this hotel. find somewhere else that really does all inclusive and not just part time.

Room Tip: another hotel

The hotel was well laid out, situated with easy access to Pineda centre and rail station(15mins walk), Calella (20mins walk). Easy access to nice clean beaches and relaxing walks. A hop on/off little holiday train stopped outside the hotel and ran every 30mins to either resort cost 3 euros round trip 1.75 euros one way. The main line train to Barcelona ran every 30 mins (8 Euros return), about 1 hour journey each way. The Thomson excursion to Barcelona was very enjoyable, the guide was excellent. The hotel was very clean, rooms attended daily and all the staff very friendly . The meals were buffet style with lots of choice, no apparent dress code for evening meal (vest and shorts accepted) not nice to see! The pools were quite attractive, plenty of sun beds. The room we were allocated on arrival was terrible (No.134), directly above the Bar/entertainment area. The noise finished at 00.30am. Avoid this series of rooms if possible. The Thomson staff were very friendly and assisted with a room change thereafter no problems. The rooms are adequate, the bathroom lacked shelving and hooks, nowhere to put anything. The shower was ok, good water pressure. The wardrobe was adequate, it contained an optional safe (20 Euros + 10 refundable deposit). Despite minor problems we would recommend this child friendly and family oriented Hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view/pool view and avoid rooms above entertainment area
