Because of Canadian spring break we went in late march and I expected spring to be farther ahead then it was. The leaves weren't out yet so I would go later next time. You will fall in love with Claudia and Rudy. If you go take Rudy something from the RCMP because he loves Canada. The place is perfect for what you need. We actually got a ride from Rome to Siena but you could take bus or train. The hertz rental place is two city blocks from train station that goes to Florence (Firenze). The hertz place is so old school - smokey and a few cars sitting around. I got a very old fiesta ford with dents and scratches and it is 5 speed but it was tons of fun driving it. You quickly pick up the Italian way of driving - go for eat. We drove into Florence and parked at the train station - GPS saved our marriage. The coordinates for the villa allow easy drive from anywhere because there are lots of ways to go and lots of roundabouts to screw you up.
The villas is perfect for your needs with good beds and nice clean bathrooms. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and we couldn't take advantage of outside eating because of the season but once the weather is nice - you could live outside practically. The wifi is crappy - you have to stand by the window near their office and get very sporadic wifi at best. It made looking up things and planning tough so that should be fixed.
We cooked a meal (tacos!!) for our hosts and they cooked for us - lots of wine and olive oil that they produce. Claudia is the one who speaks English and she is lovely and so kind. Her property is wonderful and you could spend the day walking or relaxing on the property. Day trips to old Siena and monteriggio are easy ones - Florence is very drivable and is about one hour by car or train from poggibonsi or Siena.
A rental car is mandatory to go to one of the small stores nearby or drive 5 km to the huge stores PAM or COOP in Poggibonsi or Siena at 20 km. the property is a perfect springboard for any number of day trips and I would send friends for sure. It isn't luxury but very authentic Tuscany and a great location.
