Even if the food was terrible - and it's NOT - the view from this "terrace" would make up for it. Part of the Il Casale farm where we did a family tour - to the delight of our 2 year old daughter who loved the baby sheep - this outdoor dining "terrace" offered a very quiet and relaxing countryside atmosphere complete with a view of the valley below. Our server John Luigi was super friendly and high energy just enough to be entertaining but not overpowering. The highlights of our meal were the charcuterie, marinated chickpeas, and a local pasta favorite (sorry, I do not recall the name). The wine selection (it's Tuscany - you drink wine) consisted only of their own vintages which were acceptable though not on the level of what we'd had elsewhere; A minor concession given the total experience. Definitely recommended.

We had dinner and a tour here our last night in Tuscany. After 10 days of meat heavy Italian meals this was a wonderful and healthy change. Sandra, the owner of the farm, showed us around and introduced us to the activities and processes on the farm. This was followed by a wonderful, fresh and healthy meal of homemade bread, cheese, pasta and cake paired with a beautiful wine. All were products made at the farm or with the foods grown on the farm and made locally. We loved the atmosphere, briefly being part of the farm family and the stunning location. Do not go if you expect the standard meat heavy Tuscan meal, but go for sure to capture the spirit and soul of Tuscany and a truly wonderful local food experience.

This restaurant is here to rip-off tourists. The owners must be thinking, hey, it's probably cool to open a restaurant in a farm (it's not much of a farm) with a good view and charge a bit higher prices than restaurants in Tuscany and offer portions so tiny that they would have to order 2-3 times what they would normally do in order to feel full. Tourists don't come back so no problem ripping them off. So ones ends up paying for more than a Michelin star restaurant to eat farmhouse food.

We'd wanted to visit a farm & see cheese making and Podere Il Casale offered both, plus the delight of a fine country Italian lunch feast (recommended by our Tours by Locals guide, Silvia Romano). The drive through the countryside near Pienza was spectacularly beautiful, as were the panoramic views from hilltop Casale. We enjoyed local wine, bruschetta w local olive oil - then a near gourmet multi course lunch under the arbor outdoors. Then we were free to explore the farm with its sheep, baby lambs, donkeys and peacocks - wonderfully pastoral and pleasing. You'll enjoy. ...

We had a cheese making demonstration with Ulisse, who has a passion that we can all wish for! His modesty about the knowledge he started with is a challenge to anyone with a dream and desire to work hard to achieve. Beyond all of that, we learned things we had no idea about in the process of making cheese, even with some family cottage industry background. Lunch was wonderful, a perfect close to a full morning. Be prepared to learn far more than cheese making, walk away understanding the history of the Val d'Orcia and how it became what it is today! He and his wife Sandra are the quintessential hosts!
