Jonathan is a fantastically accommodating host — he even hauled many of our over-stuffed bags up to the house; he insisted on it, in fact.
Just minutes after arriving, I asked Jonathan if he knew where I could get some wild boar to cook (a favourite of my husband and I), and within an hour, he cheerfully returned with 1 kilo from a friend's freezer. Fantastic!
Any time we needed advice or had a question or minor request ("Do you have a speaker for our iPad?") he was there in minutes. His mother, too, was so friendly and helpful, showing us pictures of her family, and telling their history, in the large dining room.
As for the house itself, it has everything you could need: comfortable beds, a lovely bathroom and shower, plenty of towels, and kitchen linens, a fully outfitted kitchen with a large stove and good-size oven, FOUR outdoor areas in which to lounge or dine, two dining rooms and cellars full our outdoor furniture, laundry, a barbecue and more. Bonus: there is sage, rosemary and (I think) wild oregano in the garden!
Although there are steps up a hill to the house, it's an easy walk more than doable for those in OK shape (we're not an athletic family). The neighbours are lovely, some chatting quietly during their outdoor dinners, others taking his two goats out for an evening stroll.
If you're looking for any sort of nightlife and lightning-fast WiFi, this place is obviously not for you. But if you're happy with a short drive to Bagni di Lucca for swimming and some shops, you'll love it. There is a fabulous butcher shop and the not-to-be-missed Santina Taverna (go after 7 and don't miss the Pecorino with dessert) in San Cassiano, less than five minute (by car) away. Both are must-visits for foodies.
The only suggestion I have — and this is only because we visited during an unusual heat wave, when even the locals were complaining — is that there be a few fans in the bedrooms. That would have made taken our stay to perfection.
You will absolutely love this peaceful, friendly village, the house and its generous owners.
We stayed at the Villa from 9th to 16th September,2014. All of us were there, i.e.myself, wife, son, daughter, daughter & hubby and their two sons(3yrs & 1 yr). The Villa is surrounded by the most beautiful landscapes, where one can really enjoy the beauty of nature. Equipped with all amenities and very well furnished with antique pieces throughout. Although we travelled and visited places a lot, it was also very nice staying indoors - where we also managed to do a BBQ| in the private garden. The private parking space is convenient. I will recommend this dwelling to my friends, and maybe, we'll visit again in future. The owners of the Villa were nice with us and helpful.
