Just back from an overnight stay at the Blackwater - we decided to drive up to Wexford on a whim and after passing through Gorey - way too overcrowded and Enniscorthy - nice but not quiet enough, we drove onto Blackwater. It is a tiny village with four pubs including the hotel, a chip shop and a road to the beach.
I wasn't too sure from the outside but the room was very clean, although basic. No frills here, the shower gel and soap are nailed to the wall and the telly is tiny, but the staff were friendly and the room had everything we needed.
The hotel has car parking out the back, a pub and a restaurant, which we only used for breakfast, and is across from another three pubs. There is not really much to do there except drink, but one of the pubs had live music and that was good. During the day, you would be looking at visiting one of the empty, beautiful beaches nearby, or driving into Enniscorthy which takes about 20 mins.
I went to bed around midnight but obviously one of the pubs was open later and there were a lot of people out on the street in front of the hotel - I thought I heard a few fights starting so it wasn't the quiet rural place I had hoped for.
All in all though a nice hotel with b and b in summer for ninety euro between two - not as cheap as I would have liked but with nowhere else to stay out here who are you going to argue with?
