My wife and I flew to Marseille and then travelled to Pra Loup in a hired car (2 hours 50 mins). Most of the journey was on uncrowded motorway, with the final thirty miles travelling up the picturesque Ubaye valley. The hotel is situated in Pra Loup Molanes (1500), which is much quieter and less developed than the main ski resort at 1600. We stayed there for the first week of the Easter school holidays, and were pleasantly surprised as to how uncrowded everywhere was - I'd certainly recommend this time to anyone who wants skiing and space. We chose the hotel room via their impressive website, and the only slight disappointment of the entire holiday was that the room was rather smaller than we had hoped. Having said that, the bed was comfy, the shower superb, and the view from the balcony awesome. Larger rooms are available, but according to the website, are for three people; however, I think that we could have had one of these rooms for a small supplement, since the hotel was not very busy. We were not too bothered, so did not ask. The hotel, which is partly a converted priory, has a cosy, friendly ambiance, with lots of wooden beams; the owners were very welcoming and always eager to please. We chose the half board option, and came away having put on weight instead of losing some! The choice and quality of the food was first rate, far better than we`ve experienced in most other hotels. The ski shop is only 100 yards away, and again service was first rate. The Molanes chair lift is only a further 100 yards, but we chose to use the car each day to travel in to the main resort. We never had a problem parking near to either of the gondolas, and the skiing was extensive and had good quality snow, despite the supposed lack of it according to reports we'd received in England. Having a car is a good idea, because the Ubaye valley is beautiful, and has lots of mountain passes to explore. Barcelonnette, the nearby town , is by-passed, and the centre is typically French. If we were to return to Pra Loup, I would not hesitate to stay at Le Prieure again - I miss it already, and I've only been back two days!
