My two and friends and I were given a few restaurant recommendations by our accommodation host and El Marquez was by far the best for the food. Reading the other reviewers complaining about the decor and the service made me laugh - this is Costa Rica and this is a family run restaurant, not a 5-star upmarket culinary establishment.
Some people, myself included, noted how quiet this restaurant was. It was probably due to its' location but don;t let it put you off. The food is so good we'd returned again the next day which was also our last day. The ceviche is absolutely amazing! In those two days, we'd had the seafood soup, various steak and sea bass dishes, all of which were superb.
Their prices were also cheaper than Tico y Rico, a restaurant a few doors further down and was one of those recommended. We weren't impressed with the food there.
