“Beautiful villa”
Reviewed 23 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We stayed for one week, from 8th to 16th July 2015 with 4 children (ages 10, 13, 13 and 14).

The villa exceeded our expectations.

Beautiful, very clean villa with incredibly comfortable beds and lovely soft, clean smelling pillows (a bugbear of mine!). All beds were four poster with mosquito nets. The whole villa was furnished with beautiful furniture and artwork. The gardens were lush and well kept and the pool, although a little on the smaller side for all 6 of us when in there together was still lovely and clean. We had lots of fun. The wifi had good connection in the main area of the villa. The kitchen was stocked with everything you needed.

The owner, Alison, went out of her way and was so accommodating. The communication was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and she made sure we had every need catered for. It was like dealing with a good friend. She truly wanted you to have the best of everything.

The staff at the villa were amazing. We felt thoroughly pampered. Kamindika, the housekeeper, was always on hand when you needed him and was always in the background washing, gardening and organising things. Thillak the chef made the best food. All cooked fresh. His banana pancakes were to die for! He always made whatever you asked for. His prawn curry with lots of side dishes was as good, if not better than you would get in a restaurant. When talking to him I found out he used to cook in a hotel. He catered for all tastes, as we had 4 children who couldn't handle too much spice and heat. They would shop for us and we would give them the money. They will show you receipts, apart from fresh fish and some fruit which is bought at the market. You just have to pay for their tuk tuk, rightfully so.

When Kamindika and Thillak go home each night, they are replaced by a security guard who stays there all night until Kamindika and Thillak come back in the morning. We often saw him checking the grounds with his flashlight. You were never left alone but the staff were discreet and allowed you your privacy.

The icing on the cake of our stay at Shalini were the daily visits from the family of monkeys, beautiful birds, chipmunks/squirrels and lizards. We fed the monkeys who loved our bananas. They would sometimes feel brave enough to come up and take one from your hand. The acrobatics through the garden was hilarious to witness. They even brought their tiny little baby to see us.

We would highly recommend this beautiful villa. We went on to stay in a 5 star hotel in Kalatura for our last 3 nights which had rave reviews but although it was plush and well serviced, it wasn't a patch on Shalini. We were thoroughly spoilt here.

I would like to say a big thank you to all for an excellent experience and most comfortable stay.

“Superb holiday @ Shallini Villa”
Reviewed 3 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Staying at Shallini was an absolute pleasure. The Villa is superb, with beautiful gardens, pool and the accommodation is an Oasis setting you up for a very chilled holiday. Can't wait to get back to Unawatuna and Shallini :)

When you come once, you come again ; because Shalini Villa, an architectural pearl, which itself is a real objet d'art is simply perferct: location, close to the beach and at the same time away from the noise, wonderful tropical garden with amazing plants, birds, lovely little squirls, pool, sounds of nature.... what a paradise for your soul! We were three lucky persons from Slovenia , who spent a whole month in the villa, sorry for all those who could only stay a few days.....Since it has all been said before by all these nice people, who like us will never forget their Sri Lankan holidays I would only like to say THANK YOU Alison, for making it possible, thank you Kamandika - your garden is more beautiful every day, and thank you Taranga - I am still dreaming about your pancakes! Ayubowan!

We stayed in Shalini villa for over a week in January and had a perfect holiday. We had been travelling around for a few weeks before we arrived. We had been covering a lot of ground and it was such a delight to arrive to the calm and lovely surroundings of this lovely house and garden. The house is beautifully designed and perfect for a family or group of friends to share. The high ceilings, very spacious communal areas and bedrooms...with large and very comfortable beds exceeded our expectations. The house has been designed with a lot of thought and attention to detail. It is also very well cared for and very clean.
Kamindika the housekeeper and Taranga the cook are a delight. They are extremely friendly and helpful.....nothing was too much trouble but they manage to be very unobtrusive as well so it is very easy to relax in the house. Taranga is a great cook and a very good cookery teacher. We had some of the best food on our trip here.
Kamindika will call you a tuk tuk or arrange any other transport you might need.
I really cannot be more positive about our stay here.We really enjoyed the pool and the garden, sitting around on the comfortably furnished terrace chatting in the evenings and being so close to every thing when we could bear to leave and explore our surroundings.
This was a perfect place to stay!
