We stayed here for 2 weeks and the house itself is very nice but it is situated only a few feet away from the neighbors and because windows are usually left open in the tropics noise travels very easily. If no one is staying there its no problem, but if there is a group of people there who like to party and listen to music you can expect to hear everything loud and clearly.
Other issues included coming across a landfill that was about a hundred meters from the house, on the beach. It appeared and smelled like freshly covered garbage. See the photo I included. There was also a pair or dirty diapers that I found on the rocks right in front of the house. I have included a photo of that also. There were there for 7 days before somebody finally picked them up.
Other issues while were we included the water pump going out. That was a big deal because we had no water. But was really annoying was that we were told it would take 2 days before someone came out to look at it. Apparently on Saturdays a handy man is hard to find on Mauritius. However I found that with some arm twisting (literally) the grounds keeper was miraculously able to find someone to come out and fix it that day. So we were only out of water for about 10 hours, which is a bit better than 2 days.
The beach itself in front of the house is nice when you have it to yourself (it is very small). But expect some company because there is a public park nearby and visitors to the park like to drift over, with their kids and dogs. The sand itself has lots of coral chunks in it which is typical for every beach that I visited on Mauritius. The snorkeling in front of the house is good, but you need to be able to brave the elements such as high winds that are common. I also had some luck fishing in front of the house, but you should expect to put in a few hours to catch anything and you will have some company because the locals like to fish there also.
Early one evening we were taking advantage of some good photo opportunities on the beach and we were approached by one of the "owners friends" who needed to get into the kitchen to see if there was some particular cooking equipment that she needed? I didn't appreciate being approached like this especially since the light conditions were perfect and it interrupted the mood. Plus, this was a rare moment when we had the beach all to ourselves.
Well, this gives you a picture of what you can expect. other things of note include that there is a rooster in the neighborhood and also there are LOTS of dogs on Mauritius. So be prepared for this.
