Owner description: History |Galleries | Cafes | Boutique shops Central Otago's best kept secret - a free visitor attraction that has something for the whole family. When the Clyde dam was completed in 1990, Cromwell's main street disappeared under Lake Dunstan. Some of the historic buildings dating back to the gold rush of the 1860's were saved or lovingly rebuilt on higher ground, creating the Cromwell Heritage Precinct. Step back in time to the gold rush and explore heritage buildings, many with artisan businesses in them, located on the shore of beautiful Lake Dunstan. Open daily.

We went for a wander to look at the old buildings but to be honest i think you could skip this. The boutique style shops are all over priced and theres not much else to see

Lovely strolling through the village with beautiful galleries and boutique shops and plenty of informative displays. Worth a visit.

good cafe, fairly generic gift shop, but nice to look through. Waterfront is peaceful. Historic stuff well labelled and lots of good written/pictorial history to view. I'd go again.
