We stayed with our family in August. I was worried it would be cramped with it being such a big hotel. Wow was I wrong, at no point in the holiday did it feel full even a meal times.

The pool is huge and the kids loved it, the entertainments team were great at keeping us smiling throughout the holiday. Lots of activities going on if you want to join in. The kids club was amazing and made our littles ones holiday.

The food was delicious and had a good variety, with two dining areas there were childrens food to select from too.

A lovely modern and well set out hotel, lovely staff who always were happy to help. The rooms away from the main pool area are peaceful and you do not here any noise while the entertainment is going on. The rooms were very clean, well laid out and the corridors were quiet at night. We even had fresh fruit placed in our room every other day.

As hotels go this is one of the best ones we have stayed in with our kids, you do get what you pay for and this is one of these times. Its not full of brits and you get a good mix of nationalities to socialise with.

There is an good playground for kids to run of any energy they might have left and great football pitches and tennis court.

The beach is close by and is clean with great access to the see for younger children.

We walked into the port which is beautiful, lots of shops and great restaurants to visit if you feel the need to get out.
We also visited a medieval festival which was amazing and I would love to go back to see the jousting and fire dancing at the top of the castle.

Points to note:
We got private transfers to the hotel which made the journey about 50 mins, i would recommend this.
Nearest cash machine is in the hospital which is across the road.

Room Tip: away from the pool

We have just returned from a 1 week holiday at Alvor Baia, staying all inclusive. We have never considered Portugal before but are well traveled

HOTEL: GOOD. Is cleaned regularly and rooms daily. The hotel is located a 20 minute walk from Alvor town and is easy enough to walk into town as its downhill but coming back is a struggle so best to get a taxi for 3.9 euros .

ROOMS: Good,To be honest over size and a lot of wasted space so used the space to lay clothes out as not enough wardrobe space , hangers or draws.

FOOD: We found that the food was good enough for a 1 week stay. Lots of different choices available although quite repetitive, tea for breakfast was atrocious i think it was the water in the machine , coffee very strong , i mixed it with more hot milk.

POOL: There is a children's pool, as well as a larger pool which goes to 1.4M depth with 2 shallow ends. Lots of sun beds available throughout the day including parasols.

DRINKS:
All inclusive drinks are served using local versions and to be honest are pretty naff well below what we are used to , for us we only drink soft drinks during the day and these brands they were using are just as bad as the alcohol, so would have loved to have had a decent tasting drink in the evening, we did this by paying for it ( example round Guinness - pina colado - cider - wkd blue £19 not cheap ) Only glasses if you pay, plastic cups for everyone else at night really !!! understand it during the day
F Y I - Larger South Bock or something 0.5% alcohol volume WOW

ENTERTAINMENT: Upstairs singers every night. One blond lady very good the rest lets just say very average
Downstairs Swerve for your sanity

You will find better but to be fair to Alvor Baia you will also find a lot worse

Stayed with family in August,
Arrived early but had late snack out on for us , check in quick and efficient.
Room really nice , plenty of space , and found bed comfortable !
Really clean hotel , always seemed to be someone around cleaning something.
No problems with food , good selection every night , would have to be pretty fussy eater not to find something.
We ate pretty early every night so restaurant was relatively quiet but looked like it descended into chaos as night went on !
No problems with drinks , obviously not all premium brands but not far off. Only once was it mentioned about only 2 drinks per person , other than that got whatever we asked for ( amazing what happens when you talk to the bar staff nicely ! )
Plastic glasses not an issue , would sooner this than picking glass out of my kids feet , and surprisingly enough the drinks tasted the same ?
Huge pool, lovely temperature ( needed to be cool as the temperature was hot ! )
Plenty of sunbeds , lots reserved as usual but only a drama if you make it one .
Only Criticism would be evening entertainment not great , was tucked away in downstairs bar area , area did not seem to be particularly designed for this . Would have been better (and cooler) to have by pool bar.

Overall great / clean hotel and would happily take family back there.

Not the best of hotels. Pool great, entertainment team great.
Food if you like it greasy and luke warm its fine I found eating out best option.Receptionist has a sense of humour ie when she says your room is just outside of the lift, when it's actually 4 minutes walk down four dismally lit corridors.
Corridors make you feel dismal due to poor lighting.
Whoever at Thompson\first choice gave this hotel a level 4 grade needs their backsides kicking.
Restaurant , canteen reminds you of school dinners but food not as good.
My room was 382 great views but utilitarian plastic and wood.

I have just returned from a 1 week holiday at Alvor Baia, staying all inclusive from the start of September.

We went as a young couple, and found that there was a mix of parties staying here; couples, families, friends of different ages but did not find this to be a problem at all. Several different nationalities staying here too (English, French, Spanish) and staff could speak fluent in all languages so there were no communication difficulties.

I am going to review individual aspects of this holiday/hotel and I think this is important because I read lots of unfair and unclear reviews about this hotel before arriving.

HOTEL: very modern, only built 5 years ago. Is cleaned regularly and nothing seems worn. Photos advertised online are identical to the hotel at present. Took about an hour from Faro airport by bus. The hotel is located a 15/20 minute walk from Alvor town and is easy enough to walk into town as its downhill but coming back is a struggle so best to get a taxi for 5 euros or less. Hotel is very near the local hospital which is handy. I was worried about noise but we heard none.

ROOMS: modern, spacious, kitchenette, pool view with large balcony, safe, 2 wardrobes, 2 TVs, sofa bed etc.

FOOD: all inclusive restaurants (green opens earlier than blue, and is designed for families although provides the same food), 1 paying restaurant and bar on ground level which we did not use. We found that the food was good enough for a 1 week stay. Lots of different choices available although it is important to note it is buffet style so if you're looking for fine dining, this is not the place although I think it is explanatory for the price and type of holiday (it's not the Maldives!). Breakfast; full English breakfast choices, Portuguese meats and cheeses, breads, fruit, yoghurts and cereal with a choice of hot drinks and fruit juices. Lunch; lots of different meat, fish, rice dishes, and a choice of salads and cheeses again. Dinner; mix of meats and fish again with salads etc but is rotated from lunch so there is variety. Desserts are absolutely wonderful, lots of different cakes, fruit and ice cream etc.

POOL: There is a children's pool, as well as a larger pool which goes to 1.4M depth with 2 shallow ends. Lots of sun beds available throughout the day including parasols.

DRINKS: all inclusive drinks available from
Pool bar and grand cafe downstairs where entertainment is held in the evenings. Paid drinks can be purchased from upstairs bar. All inclusive drinks are served using local versions of big brands etc but this is expected and tasted absolutely fine. Served in plastic cups which is no issue really as drinks with meals were served in glasses. If you want the real brands you have to pay for it but you can't really expect to have them included in the AI price considering the price of the holiday. 1 cocktail of the day available which we generally found to be ok. Tequila and strawberry daiquiri were our favourites. They are generous with alcohol servings too!

ENTERTAINMENT: only part that let this hotel down. We were not looking to make use of the entertainment so this did not really affect us. Shows or singers every night. Singers and bands were good although shows provided by entertainment team were poor in the evening. Day time entertainment included Aqua gym, yoga, dancing and a pool side trumpet player which we loved.

TUI REPS: Very attentive but not intrusive. Welcome meeting worth attending to find out more about Alvor. We booked a trip to Zoomarine for 70 euros for 2 including travel which was well worth the money for a full day out.

ALVOR: nice little down. Beach one end and marina the other. We spent most time in the evenings near the marina. Lots of fish and meat restaurants and usual shops selling souvenirs etc. Irish bars and cocktail bars are great too.

Overall this was a great holiday. It is ideal for young couples and families looking for a fairly quiet holiday but gives the opportunity to get involved in things too.
