Yes, it's new, clean, big (500 rooms!) and spacious (room, balcony, pool). Food is very good with childern food (pasta, chips etc.) too. But the red wine is a disgrace for Portugal: such a bad red wine in a country that produces lovely reds and whites. But buy your wine and enjoy it at your own balcony. Unlike the foto on their site there are no wine glasses so bring them with you from the bar. Rooms are ok isolated so the noise levels inside are fine. The airco works good and also not to noisy. On the balcony you'll hear the airco fans on the roof.
BBC Worldservice on the telly now available.
Bring a wireless cable router or FON router with you (and the cable!) and setup you own wireless (works only when you slide your card in for electricity). The internetrouter of the hotel is a too cheap version and needs to be reset often (you'll get a "no ip" message). So sometimes it works and sometimes not (not to bad when you're on holiday and wanted to read that book ;-)
The little train works well: take the 9 o'clock to the beach and you'll have a empty beach for your self to start with. Take the 12:10 back to the hotel and enjoy your lunch in the Green restaurant (the Blue restaurant opens later and has no baby seats ;-). In the afternoon the beach can be very windy. Oh, do not forget to go to "O Tobias" a little restaurant/cafe on the beach (and not behind it) almost at the end of the beach before the rocks (when you walk from your train to the beach turn left) Say hi to lovely Claudia ((portugees and she teaches English in winter). They have real good curry too being from India! And from there you a wonderfull view of this bay all the way to the nice town Lagos (Taxi is 20 Euro from the hotel and is better than to wait for hours for the bus as we did). At the tiny harbour of Alvor you can book nice sailing trips. No mosquitos :-)

Room Tip: Higher floors have nicer view and choose if possible the rooms directly above the reception on the street side and you'll enjoy the morning sun on your balcony.

Just returned from 11 nights at the Alvor Baia, rooms were spacious and clean with a seperate living area with sofa and tv. The downside is that you could hear a lot of noise from the corridoors with guests slamming doors, shouting or letting children run up and down screaming. Pool was very busy with no free sun loungers as most were being reserved but we were happy to get the free train down to the beach.

Food was ok although a bit repetitive but this is no different to anywhere else that we have been where all inclusive is buffet style. We went into Alvor to eat out a few times which was great and more relaxing. The dining room is very noisy so it's a case of eating and getting out as soon as you can, not very relaxing.

The bars were quite busy and I think that there should be more staff serving as queues did get very long at times especially at the upstairs bar. Most staff were friendly enough apart from one lady at the bar who was quite rude and surly. The downstairs bar was really noisy at nights with no entertainment for adults really, it would have been nice to have an adults only bar where you could go to have a quieter drink.

Room Tip: We emailed the hotel prior to going to ask for a pool view room we also got a sea view

We booked our holiday through Travel Republic who use a company called A2B Transfers for the transfers from airport to hotel.

We travelled in June 2012. Hotel was nice but watch out for the transfers...they were awful.

We flew back from Faro - it took over 2 hours to travel 47 miles...on the way back it made us over half an hour late for our flight check-in.

we complained to Travel Republic who do make a notional effort to investigate the complaint but do nothing else. What out when booking with this company...it has put me off using them again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool are worth it.

Just returned from a week at the Alvor Baia. The good points, Hotel was clean and spacious, staff were friendly and helpful.
The not so good points. Not nearly enough loungers or shades around the pool.
The bad points. Food was of poor quaility, under cooked and cold, this was reported to our Rep who promised to pass this concern to the management but we noticed no improvement. We shall not be returning as having to eat out makes an expensive holiday when you have paid all inclusive.

I just returned from two weeks at this hotel with the wife and little boy, we had a great holiday so its hard to criticise the hotel but we feel some aspects of the stay were a big letdown other aspects were very good. There is a small 'train' which takes the guests down to the beach every hour which was free this was a nice surprise and the old fishing port is just lovely. The Hotel rooms are spotlessly clean and modern which was nice, sound proofinf wasnt bad but if you have young children be sure to get them to sleep early as the corridors and rooms above make a great deal of noise later in the evening....also but watch out for the electrical sockets which chidren can put their fingers into!. The staff on reception and the bar staff are very pleasant, but, the male 'restaurant' staff are unfriendly and indifferent to their guests, the canteen style restaurant lacked atmosphere, there was a wide choice of meals for adults but there was a very limited choice of childrens meals and they were not very healthy. we also found many adult main courses were luke warm, this worried me... chicken and beef particularly pose a real threat to health, unless this is resolved it is only a matter of time before there is a food poisoning incident here. The pool area was lovely and well maitained. The playgroup at first seemed well organised but we did see some younger children (and our little boy) completely unatended at times, after this we did not feel comfortable leaving him in their care. The area of alvor is quieter than other resorts but is well serviced with bars and places to eat, we found the locals very friendly indeed. despite our gripes we would probably stay again, we made some friends and my little boy loved the holiday. Last but not least... the First Choice holiday reps are not terribly helpful, they are friendly enough but did nothing to resolve the issues which guests were raising.

Room Tip: all rooms are spotless and modern but be aware the lifts to all floors are glass fronted which may not suit everyone.
