Imagine opening a beautifully wrapped big Christmas present and discovering a pair of socks in there but also then also discovering that the socks have been worn before! That is this hotel.

The setting is beautiful and has all of the potential to be a remarkable place but sadly it is not. Starting on a positive, the olive groves are stunning, the gardens would have been beautiful in their day, the buildings are well kept and, once you have fought through the foot long grass, the pool is lovely but that is about where the positivity from me stops.

We booked an apartment for 5 people. The photos looked charming but the reality was more like a tiny cheap motel like apartment with little comfort and certainly no charm. The place resembled a youth hostel.

Basic uncomfortable beds with neon lights and really horrible cheap sheets (I actually didn't realise how important thread count was until I spent 5 nights curled up in those polyester horrors).

There was a small ample kitchenette with a kitchen table but that was about it for our 3 bedroom apartment for 5 adults. Nowhere to sit and relax, a tiny terrace that was over looked by massive floodlights at night and, to top it all off, the bathrooms were tiny, had limited hot water and were basic (imagine a youth hostel from your backpacking days).

I really don't know what this place is trying to do. It is not a hotel as there are no amenities (apart from a buffet breakfast served by a lovely lady) and it is not an agristurismo or self-catering style holiday as the apartments are ghastly and have no charm or area to relax in. It is beautiful on the outside but has no charm and clearly lacks love. Overall, I am not sure who it really caters to.

You can probably pick up how disappointed I was! I would not recommend this place as I really don't know who it caters to. I just hope someone else takes over because it has all of the potential to be a very special place.

Thankfully we had a good gang so we laughed the time away by visiting some great places around Puglia and drinking some superb wine!

Dear Mr. Kerwich, We regret very much that you have not enjoyed the stay at our masseria. Anyway, we would like to clarify that on the website of Booking.com the apartment is well described and there are the relative photos, that perfectly show how is the apartment furnished and beds placing. Concerning the sheets, we would clarify that they are provided by an industrial laundry that works with the mainly hotels of Apulia. The sheets are made by 100% of cotton and it's written on the sheet. Thank you very much for the nice words spent for our staff, that is always the strong point of our masseria. Anyway, in our structure there are many accommodation : standard rooms, junior suites and suites. We hope that you will return hereafter, choosing the best accommodation for your needs. Best regards Masseria Tutosa Residence

Lovely masseria, we were clearly there before the tourism season starts, few guests, swimming pool and restaurantnot yet open which we had not realized beforehand, but besides that lovely. Staff very friendly, great breakfast, lovely terrain. Room small but fine. You need a car, lots of lovely things to see in surrounding area.

Besides the buildings themselves outside, I felt like I was in a nondescript hotel that could have been anywhere in the world. A bit more rustic charm or something like that would have been nice. We paid 60-something euro for a double room, which was a bit high in my opinion. Everything was very clean, but didnt really speak of a masseria. Also, I woke up super early because there was so much light coming in the room, even through the curtains!
The grounds are nice, but it was still too early for us to use the pool.
The breakfast was nice, especially the lady who served it! She was actually the nicest person we encountered at the hotel. No Smiles at all from reception, which was a bit strange. The marmalades are just fantastic, especially the lemon one.
The location is good if you want to go to the sea or spend the day in ostuni.

Cordiali saluti
Masseria Tutosa

I wasn't sure quite what to expect when I first booked this place (a cross between a hotel, farmhouse and outdoor haven.

As soon as you drive down the driveway laced with wild flowers you get a sense of something special. The garden(s) and pool are very clean and you may often find the odd cricket or cat in the vicinity is your nearest companion.
The rooms are traditional farmhouse style but beautifully kept and kept clean every day. The Masseria is a perfect base to see the best Puglia has to offer which is why many guests seem to choose it. We were lucky enough to have a garden view room.
The Signora and owner, Antonia, and two receptionists Mima and Elisabetta could not have been more accommodating – although it does help if you can speak a smattering of Italian as this is the place to be if you want to move away from the tourist trap.
Anna Maria is the cook that comes in each day and you may well see dishes such as roasted calf or aubergine parmigiana on the menu. Breakfast, like most of the food is homemade with produce from the Masseria’s grounds. Anna Maria creates the wonderful marmalades and jam which you can buy (along with olive oil ) although this is not advertised. They are very good!!
Word of advice though, we booked flights back from Bari which is about an hour’s drive from the Masseria. Better to get tickets from Brindisi which is just circa 22km from the hotel. Nearby are the beautiful Rosa Marina Beach (1km walking) and Ostuni which is about 7.5km.

In the summer months you will eat alfresco as we found the restaurant downstairs shut but this was perfect,.

This is not rave central by any stretch but if you want complete relaxation, warm and kind staff and a central base of the beaten track you just can’t beat this place.

Room Tip: We booked a ground floor room by the pool and these have tables outside giving you direct access to the grounds.
