My sister-in-law was reticent as she didn't expect to enjoy a visit to an art gallery, especially one out of town in the Yarra Valley where we were holidaying. Instead, the William Dobell exhibition was a winner as was the building itself set amidst stunning views of the vineyard and surrounds. The views which could be glimpsed from tall windows were like works of art themselves. A visit to the cafe restaurant topped off a memorable morning at Tarrawarra.

A wonderful collection of Dobell works including his Archibald Prize winners. The exhibition also includes some sketches not previously exhibited.
The Tarrawarra Museum of Art is always worth a visit not just for the artwork but for the building itself and it wonderful setting with glimpses of the Yarra Valley from the floor to ceiling windows.

The Museum is set amongst the rolling hills and a vineyard . It is a superb place to visit. The architecture of the museum is stunning .There is a restaurant and cafe which I must try on my next visit. You can also do wine tasting and purchase wine from the cellar door.
The current exhibitions are excellent and we're well worth the trip to the gallery by train and bus from the city
The current exhibitions are Discovering Dobell/Dobells Circle/and Artworks from the Tarrawarra Museum of Art Collection

If you get a chance go and visit the TarraWarra Museum of Art. This gallery is set in a winery and has magnificent views. They frequently have very good exhibitions such as Dobbell which is currently running.

Another fascinating exhibition at Tarrawarra. As well as giving visitors an insight into this great artists working methods through drawings and studies, there are major works on loan.
The works by Dobell are complemented by works from Tarrawarras collection representing many of the major artists from the period when Dobell was working.
A bonus for Melbourne locals is that most of these artists lived and worked in Sydney. The beautiful gallery and its setting make a visit enjoyable whatever is showing there.
