We decided to head an hour west one day and try one of the Rockport Cruises. We were able to book the two hour cruise just a day ahead. When we arrived we were amazed at all the tour buses, but luckily, most were taking the one hour cruise or the Boldt Castle tour so our boat was very roomy for the 30 or so folks taking it. The tour left a little late, but made up for the time along the way. There is a recording that shares details of the various points of interest along the way including the international bridges, millionaire's row, Boldt Castle, etc. It was a little challenging to follow at times since they cover about 4 languages, but we followed along fairly well and found it informative. This tour covers much more area in the Thousand Islands than the tour out of Kingston which basically spends half of it's time getting there. Overall, a very good tour of the area and Rockport is always nice to spend the day with many eating places right where you get off and on.

A friend and I did the Boldt Castle tour. The ticket people were friendly, the boat on time, the captain super friendly -- excellent with little kids who had a ball pretending to steer the boat in front. The timing was just right for everything. I thoroughly enjoyed the day. Plus free easy parking, and cheaper tickets than other lines. Just a fabulous day.

We took the Rockport "Heart of the Island" one-hour cruise. It was very interesting to see all the little islands along the beautiful St Lawrence River that runs between New York and Ontario. There are over 1800 islands, but the most prominent is Heart Island on which Boldt Castle stands.
The ferry has three decks. The top deck gives you clear views of the river and the houses on the islands. We were keen to look out for Boldt Castle, Just Room Enough Island, and Zavikon Island.
Boldt Castle was originally built by George Boldt (hotelier of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel fame) for his wife, Louise Kehrer, but she died before he could complete it. So it became an incomplete monument of his love for her, until recently restored by authorities.
Just Room Enough Island has just one house, and stands next to Heart Island. It's called Mother-In-Law's House by the locals. Word has it that the MIL could not swim and was given this house so she could stay there and not interfere in the couple's affairs. Not sure how true that is !
Zavikon Island is a pair of privately-owned islands and boasts the shortest international bridge in the world linking one island on the Canadian side to the other island on the American side. You can see the country flags on the respective islands.
The one-hour cruise allows you to view all these interesting islands and more, and sails slowly and peacefully through the calm waters of the blue St Lawrence River.

We enjoyed a delightful Canada Day lunch cruise. The two hour cruise up the St. Lawrence and under the Ivy Lea Bridge before cruising around Bolt Castle was very enjoyable.
Lunch was a tasty buffet. Don't miss the carrot cake for desert!

Everything about this cruise was well done. We were greeted on arrival and directed to parking, once on board we were directed to our table and the lunch was done in a very orderly fashion.

One of our most pleasant surprises were the washrooms on shore. This firm operates numerous cruises on multiple boats simultaneously. There were about a dozen busses in the parking lot, yet the washrooms were clean. Obviously they clean them frequently during the day.
We're wanted a way to spend part of the day on the water. This was a great experience!

Hi, just visited 1000 islands traveling from Rhode Island. Had 3 choices in Ferries in seeing the 1000 Islands - decided to go with Rockport and it was a huge mistake. I had booked the 2 1/2 hour tour and was told after waiting for a couple hours that the boat was broken and they would refund our money. Well! my family just travels HOURS and was only in Rockport for a "stop" and this was our only chance to see the 1000 Islands and my now, it was getting late in the day to travel to another Ferry service. However, understanding it was out of their control, but I thought they would be accommodating. Instead they were RUDE and only offered the 1 hour tour for a $15 savings for 3 people. They understood we were from the States - so maybe thats why they were so RUDE. Don't go here for your Cruise, better off with Gananoque Boat Line or Kingston. Rockport boats seem to be old and what happen to us - could happen to you.
