Winkworth Arboretum is a nice place to visit but I`d hate to have to shell out the full cost...luckily we are both National Trust for Scotland members, so got in free. The car park entrance needs some attention and the toilets are very much in need of a makeover. The walks are pleasant and the views are lovely. Labels on the trees could do with being larger.

As we both walk in the countryside very regularly, the arboretum was strangely underwhelming for us...probably because we know plenty of lovely woodlands which don`t require payment or NT/NTS membership to visit!

Went for a gentle stroll, as awaiting knee surgery we took the gentle "blue" route, this was labelled as access for all. We walked in a clockwise direction from the toilets and after a short while the path was very bumpy and full of tree roots with a slippery surface down a slope. Whilst I accept that an Arboretm will have lots of tree roots I think to labe a route as access for all gives the impression that it would be buggy friendly, I think it would wreck a childs buggy.
Enough negatives, the trees are still giving some autumn colour and a couple are actually in flower. There are some lovely views over the surrounding countryside, just right for working up a thirst as they serve a rather good cup of tea, just don't take young children in a buggy.

What a disappointment. My wife uses a wheelchair as she is unable to walk; the Winkworth web-site states 'grounds partly accessible'. They may be but the path to the entrance kiosk was so bumpy that it hurt her back. We had to turn round and give up so we didn't see the grounds. It might be OK if you have a large motorised wheelchair. For us, a waste of an hour and a half, though the country roads are pleasant.

Enjoyed an afternoon walking thru the woods and around the lake. We are definitely going to visit again.

The only negative was we chose to go on a Sunday morning and the park was enormously popular.

Had a lovely walk through stunning autumnal scenery which despite large footfall was quiet and peaceful. Unfortunately the experience was marred by the poor cafe which is just not big enough for such a popular attraction. May I suggest that you need to enlarge the cafe in order to attract even more people to stop and try the excellent, but limited fare.
