Such an enjoyable trip with Rob who was very knowledgeable about the wildlife, history and geology of the area. He was also quite humerous which was good. We saw seals a d lots of different birds but unfortunately didn’t get to see any dolphins or porpoises. However, we will definitely be back in the future and might catch them next time.
The boat was comfortable and you felt very safe even though you got some speed up which was fun!
Rob took us out on a wonderful trip to Orestone Rock and back closer to the coast on the homeward journey. We were impressed by his enthusiasm and knowledge. Managed to see seals with their pup, dolphins and various birdlife.
Just the most amazing experience thank you so much. Worth every penny. I know it's pot luck and did we get lucky with the amount of dolphins we saw this morning. Also saw seals, cormorants, shags, peregrine falcons and oyster catchers. Worth getting up early for the sea was like a millpond and the sun was amazing. The guys doing the commentary and steering the boat were amazing! Do this trip! So so good!
We have been coming to Teignmouth every year with the extended family since about 2011. The one thing we do that has never got dull is the Sea Safari. In fact we love it so much that this year we did it twice.
The skipper, Rob, is always friendly, helpful and super knowledgeable about the wildlife, geology and history of the area. He always goes out of his way to give everyone the best time, frequently going over the paid for time, he is no clock watcher! When you consider it is just fun being on a fast boat, and then all the wildlife you will see, it is always the best bang for your buck you are going to get in Teignmouth!
We have always seen some sort of marine mammal, but not always dolphins (I would say we have seen them most times though). When we have not seen a dolphin though, we have seen a porpoise or two which is equally exciting. When we have seen dolphins it has frequently been spectacular, swimming alongside, underneath and all around the boat, and often jumping into the air. If you go in August you always seem to see the little calfs too. The kids just love it, but I think I'm as excited as they are!
For the birders there are frequent treats, below is short list of some of the things we have seen:
- Gannets (and often diving in to the water)
- Guillemots
- Fulmars
- Balearic shearwater
- Storm petrel
- Peregrine falcon
- The usual sea birds (black backed gulls, shags, comorants etc)
Book it, you will not be disappointed!
We did the 2 hour safari and it was excellent . Rob gave really interesting commentary throughout the trip on both the wildlife and geology. The coastline was beautiful and so many different birds. Highlights included a full rainbow over the cliffs
(the short shower followed by sunshine was worth it), gannet diving into the sea from a great height and leaping dolphins. Spectacular. Would definitely recommend.
I wanted to take my Grandson (8 years old) out on a boat trip to see Dolphin, Harbour Porpoise and birds and DSS’s two hour Safari was the perfect duration.
Rob was superb at pointing out the wildlife and his knowledge of the coast’s geology and history was brilliant too.
Friendly, safe and value for money. Also, they put the wildlife first which every operator should do.
My Grandson got to see Short-beaked Common Dolphin for the first time and right next to the boat so he had fantastic views. We also saw Harbour Porpoise and a Grey Seal so went away very happy.
Highly recommended if you’re in the area.
