This small hotel on a quiet section of the Broadstairs sea front is beautifully decorated, and we had a very comfortable bedroom with a great sea view. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet of our room with the sound of the ocean lapping the shoreline outside, the lovely food, and the convenience of being just a short walk from the centre of town. I agree with what many happy reviewers have said about their enjoyable stay here, but only one other guest I have found in Trip Advisor with whom I shared a slight disappointment over the bar, and also the communal areas in which the ambience seems more that of a B&B than an hotel. It feels a little churlish to write anything less than positive about "The Bay Tree" but the bar/library whilst having been described as "enticing" by others, is really like someone's tiny, though classy, living room with a drinks cabinet, and here it also serves as the hotel office as well. We never saw anyone using it. The restaurant, during our stay anyway, can be very quiet in the evening and when we dined there with only a few other diners the small lounge and mostly empty dining room was not the most relaxing of experiences, notwithstanding the excellent meal. I am not a particular fan of background music in restaurants, it can often be too loud, but at the right level suitable music can be useful. Only recently the food critic Michael Dean wrote that " a music free restaurant can feel starchy and awkward" and like "eating in a library". Some music was being played at breakfast, so the facility is obviously there.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a good sea view

I have no idea what it’s like to stay at the Bay Tree, however, I can tell you that there’s a new chef in the restaurant who really knows what he’s doing. Sunday Lunch included the crispiest roast potatoes, tender roast beef, melt in the mouth hispi cabbage and wonderful Yorkshire pudding. The cherry and basil soufflé was impossibly light with a crisp outside and a rich, deep taste. This is real cooking, made from scratch, freshly prepared with true passion.

We had a four-night stay at this beautiful boutique hotel. The decor is captivating and makes for great memories of the stay. The breakfasts and dinners were excellent. In fact the restaurant would be recommended in its own right. We liked the fact that we could sit in the lounge, order our meals and then proceed to the restaurant when ready.
The owners have created a gem of a hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms with the sea view are sensational
