This place is inside the fortress and seemed interesting. Stepped in to taste the famous Brunello. I was offered several options. They also have a small food menu and the price seemed to be on the higher side. Service was cheerful.

Just go up to the counter where the tasting menus or you can just let the guys there set up a nice tasting...from 2-3 normal on up to the high end tasting of aged Brunellos. They can also set you up with the whole apertivo and meat plates. If it is nice outside sit outside in the Fortress courtyard along the entrance. You will enjoy the time and be so tempted to buy wine. Don't forget about the honey grappa

Our tour guide took us here for wine and lunch. I had been here before for wine tasting, but not for lunch. We selected two different wine tasting options (I believe Euro 20 and 40) and shared between us. The servers kept bringing us old Brunellos that we had to try. All of them were excellent. They were very generous to us. The food was very good, but the wine was the star attraction. We all agreed that this was one of the best wine and food events we had experienced and want to go back and stay in Montalcino. We ordered a case of wine and had it shipped home. Looking forward to our next visit.

My husband and I stayed in Montalcino for a day/night on our tour of Italy. We knew we had to hit a few wineries being the huge winos that we are, and knowing a little about Brunello wine. We also knew we had to site see a bit, so this enoteca/wine shop was the best of both worlds, as it is literally in the Fortezza di Montalcino! They have an amazing selection of wine, and a very friendly staff! We had the pleasure of meeting Sergio, one of the staff members, who helped us pick an AMAZING selection of wines to ship home! He was super helpful, and very nice! He definitely made our visit more memorable!

My wife and I enjoyed a quiet dinner here and were very well served by the friendly staff. We started with bruschetta as well as a white bean salad. Tagliatelle with duck and the native pasta (name of which I forget but is awesome) bolognese were both super. Chef came out to say hello and check on us.
The coolest part is that they don't use a wine list. Rather you browse around the wine shop, ask some questions, have a Brunello taste here and there and pull your final selection off the shelf. We pulled a 2010 Uccelliera - outstanding.
