The Main Street in Platanias is busy and noisy, so we plunged into a side street and found ourselves climbing up to Old Platanias, which overlooks the town and coast. Wandering into Socrates by accident, we were greeted by friendly staff and the all too familiar ‘international’ menu. We like traditional Greek food so asked for beef stifado and lamb souvlaki, not expecting anything great. We could not have been more wrong - both dishes were delicious, beautifully flavoured and perfectly cooked. The house wine - dry red - came chilled and was all the better for it. Very nice. Complimentary raki and lemon cake accompanied our coffee and the bill was very reasonable. Service was exemplary. Highly recommended.
