I booked this hotel for myself, husband and 19 year old daughter. The hotel grounds are very nice. I upgraded to a pool room it was very nice. Unfortunately the food let the hotel down. I would class the hotel as 4 star but the food as 2. I would go back but not all inclusive.

Room Tip: if you can afford to, upgrade to a pool room

So this was an interesting holiday. The start wasn't great (aside from Ryanair comfort seats on the plane!). We arrived at the hotel I good time and check in fine with porter assistance. The room however was poor. If we had taken our cat, we wouldn't have had room to swing it! Fine for a couple, but not for a family of four. A lot less space than previous family room holidays we've taken in the past. Also, poorly equipped with added issues such as broken door handles. So my wife went to reception and calmly said we were leaving unless an alternative could be sourced. In fairness to reception / guest relations and after a little bit of conversation around the room dimensions being published, they moved us to an upgraded family room, virtually the same as family rooms we've had on previous holidays. So our holiday then began. Only real negatives to write about is the impersonal and slightly confusing way all inclusive guests were treated regarding drinks versus half / full board guests. Certain bars at certain times and mainly through use of an RFID tagged drinks vendor. All inclusive guests had to pay for drinks in the nicest 'Hermes' bar. Entertainment was very limited compared to other holidays and all seemed to take place in the Hermes bar, so you'd have to pay for drinks. As we weren't bothered about being entertained, they didn't see us in that bar so we didn't part with any cash. There was a Greek evening which was nice with some dancers. We had to pay €10 a head for that. Whilst these things were slightly annoying, it didn't stop our enjoyment of the holiday. Location was good albeit the village the hotel was in which has obviously been developed to cater for the numerous hotels in the vicinity, was a bit plastic. However, a lot of amenities on your door step. Food I have to say was the best we've had (aside from our honeymoon in St Lucia) in any all inclusive resort. Very impressive. Staff were friendly and efficient and not over bearing. Plenty of pools all of which were clean. No lifeguard though? Sun beds were an issue unless you were an early riser, but I guess that's the same anywhere in Peak season. Room cleaning was good, especially given the mess our two young girls leave behind. The beach was close, safe and had a lifeguard. It also had a hotel bar on it, but again, all inclusive guests had to pay for drinks or walk back to the hotel to get them (which we did). The hotel charged €4 per beach sun bed per day which was unnecessary. As we're tight, that meant we went to the beach at about 4pm to avoid being charged! While we were there, we hired a car for a few days. The company we used was called Speedy over the road from the hotel. They had a plus one day offer on so we had three days for two. We used this to visit Chania, Rethymnon, Elafonisis and the nearest water park (Crete is a surprisingly large island!). Chania: lovely, Venetian, lots of history, a bit touristy, very much worth a visit. Rethymnon: slightly less picturesque than Chania, good for shops. Elafonisis: amazing beach, sea and sand - could have been in the Caribbean (be careful to choose a calm day, it was very windy when we were there). Water park: not the biggest, but clean, fun and safe. Got together with another family of four who were on the same flights at the same hotel who also use Travel Counsellors (the agent we use). That probably made the holiday for all of us as our girls had someone to play with and me and my wife had someone to drink with. All in all, a great holiday. With a few tweaks, it could have been fantastic.

Very disappointed. Stayed ther 26. June-6.July 2017. In the room window had water between the glass. And lock on balconie door was broken, so if you closed one side the other would pop open and wouldn't lock.
Staff talked very little English and were rude. Example I asked for vinager with my chips. Girl at bar said she had no vinager. I pointed at it in the shelf. She said no that's just olive oil. So I asked for the olive oil. She moved the vinager to get to the olive oil and give me that! And no way to make her understand. Also there was some kind of celebration and a staff member came by the pool and asked us to go to the poolside door for free refreshments. We walked straight there only to see two young men carrying a table in they said the selebration was over. Why come to the pool and tell people to go there if it was already over? There was a poster by the bar it said '70 and '80 music tonight, in upstairs room. In the evening We went there, but it was bingo, and staff said O that was Yesterday. Nobody bothers to take down the advertisements!
And so many more incidents like this.

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel

This hotel is one of the few I've chosen to come back to, due to an excellent experience here a few years ago. From the central location allowing convenient exploration of western half of the island, to the modern and spacious rooms, Porto Platanias is an excellent choice for any vacation to Crete. This time around, I explored the more remote beaches (Elafonisi, Balos, and Falassarna), the first two of which are claimed to be the best beaches in Greece by some sites. All three are within easy reach of the hotel by boat, or by road if you have a car, as is the beautiful city and old port town of Chania. For the lazier days of our trip, we enjoyed the sunbeds at the beach right in front of the hotel, as well as exploring the coastline and shops of Platanias. I highly recommend the Cretan Night (Every Sunday, RSVP for this ahead of time), which has delicious traditional greek food, beautiful live music, and professional dancers showing traditional Cretan dances, and even teaching them to the crowd!

Hello! We were residents at this resort between 20/7-27/7. Room 245, as all inclusive customers. Ill give you my honest and sincere review of this hotel. We also travled with room 352 and 511.

Lets start with the positives:

*Large buffet with plenty of choices for every meal
*The serving staff were nice and helpful
*Nice pools to choose from
*Nice and clean
*Nice and helpful technician helped us get a part of our baby carrige that fell off and dropped down the elevator shaft
*Well positioned in the city of Platinias

Now lets get into the negatives. A vastly larger list than the above:

As an All inclusive customer I have already prepaid for my stay and food and drinks. This usually follows with some kind of rules of what is included and so forth which is of course understandable - But Porto Platinas wants you as an AI client to feel like your nothing but a second rate human being. A bit like the old apartheid system that was in place in South Africa. Let me elaborate:

*You have a list of drinks you can choose from (which is standard). These drinks can only be ordered from one bar at the resort. One bar is open in the noon, and one at night. During this there are about 3 other bars open, only for paying customers (which I'm obviously not according to PP)

So PP wants to keep 3 bars empty and pack all its second rate clients at the same place at all times. Great planing! Good Job! Way to make your clients feel welcome! :)

*The drinks..oh my god, the drinks. As I stated above, its standard to have a list of drinks and cocktails to choose from as a AI client. But PP wants to cheat you out of this experience as well. Instead of actually giving you the drink they have on the list for AI clients, they give you a premixed crap version of the drink out of a white huge flask with the drink name writen on it. Almost no alcohol, no taste, or nothing that resembles the drink you actually ordered.

Our first thought was - Fine, they don't know how to make drinks here. We can live with that. but then we saw what a paying customer gets when they order a cocktail. They get the real stuff. Made from scratch. So we ordered one AI crap Mojito and one from scratch that we paid for. (I've included a picture so you can see the difference)

*The bar personnel (in the evening AI bar) was run by a couple of gentlemen that were both overstressed and rude. Of course they are overworked cause the vast majority of the hotel is at the same spot ordering drinks - Cause its the only place we are allowed to order! While the remaining bars stay empty and unused...

The rules changed from night to night. One day we could order 6 drinks in one order. they day after it was 2 drinks. And if we both went up and ordered 2 drinks each, and one of us walked back with the drinks and one stayed to order more, you would get yelled at. And you never knew if it was OK or not. Service is a joke here!

So lets try to conclude this -

I can only drink at one bar as an AI client
I can only choose drinks from a list. And those drinks that I order are premixed garbage I wouldn't serve to my worst enemy
I can sometimes order more than 2 drinks depending on if the bartenders are having a good day or not
Sometimes they will show a page with rules that says its actually only one drink per order. Wow...

Ive been to plenty of AI resorts. And ive never been treated like this. And Oh, I have more. But the standards ive seen in for example Spain, Maldives, Egypt are that you have a set list of drinks, but the drinks you order - are the same damn drinks that paying customers gets! So downright cheap and bad - I'm speechless!

Same with softdrinks for the kids etc - Usually (at normal functioning AI resorts) you can order a coke or a pepsi and you'll get a coke or a pepsi. Either from a bottle or on tap. These cheapskates got some bad sodastream version of softdrinks that will mess up your stomach big time if you have to much. My tip is to be VERY careful with the cola light they serve... Its thick and tastes like a mouthful of radioactive waste!

Now lets leave the drinks and go for the rest :)

*Under dimensioned amounts of sunbathing chairs for the customers at the resort. If you want a chairs you need to be up at 6-7 and throw your deposit paid towel on the chair (yepp, they couldn't even give you a towel to use. AI right?)

And oh yeah, even if the hotel owns the beach outside - you still have to pay to use those chairs. Welcome to Porto Platinas! We dont care about you, but please give us your money! :D

*Some genius decided to put a black cork protection carpet in all the playgrounds. What a great choice! so fun to see your kids crying from just touching the scorching ground when trying to get to the swing set! A+ to PP!

*The food was bland. Nothing for the kids other then ice cream. My kids want pasta neutral or rice neutral. this couldn't not be found since everything was mixed with sauce or baked etc. One theme night - Asian Night - Absolutely horrible. The sushi was undercooked porridge withe raw fish in it. We had to literately spit it out

*The planing and passage for customers to get food and be seated is also the same as for coming and going customers. A small little hallway. packed worse then your average prison. You have a bottom floor that is completely empty, but you still set your reception right outside this small hallway? is it just to mess with people and make them feel more segregated from the none AI customers?

*No AC anywhere other then the rooms. The dining area was a sweat fest

*In general, except for the serving staff, the personnel were very stressed and sometimes rude. never been to a hotel were the reception ladies are more busy gossiping then actually greeting customers. So when you walk up to them, they sigh, cause you've just interrupted their conversation about something not work related. Yes, you can see that very clearly.

* This is a good one - Large resort, built with mostly tiled flooring and white marble stairs. This leaves the flooring very slippery as soon as a splash of water hits it. No warnings anywhere for sharp edges or where stairs starts/ends etc. No slippery protection. nothing like this. There were so many people walking around with stubbed toes and other injury's cause its impossible to see the sharp edges in for example your pools. Seriously, correct this, before someone gets really injured. Not even in the kids pool you have any warnings or signs where the sharp edges are! Terrible!

*Couldn't even give you a water bottle to have in the fridge. Wow, AI indeed.

I'm sure you will get good reviews in the future from people who aren't well traveled and knows what they can get get from other places. But from me to you - You are nowhere near a 5 star hotel. Your more like bad 3 star hotel.

And your system for AI clients is to make them feel segregated from the rest of your more important clients, the once who haven't already paid for their things, is just horrible. You are, by far, the worst AI facility we've been to.

And we will never ever comeback to you.

Dear micaelkaram,

We would like to inform you that we understand your disappointment but we would like to inform you the following. First of all, our hotel is not an all inclusive hotel as the hotels that you probably have visited before during your previous trips. Our hotel has all inclusive as a supplement concerning the food and drinks and this is why are not included all the facilities. It is reasonable that guests may face inconveniences and we are open to hear all our guests' complaints in order to improve our services but your review is by far sycophantic in regards to our drinks quality and our health and safety conditions. In regards to the drinks and food we would like to inform you that we are running quality system ISO 22000 and we are certified from TUV AUSTRIA for it.
Let us also inform you that we found your comment very slanderous and based on untrue facts. We have already informed Tripadvisor administrator and our legal department as well.
