“Brilliant little jewel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2012

We recently spent a week at Hamanasi with our two boys, a teenager and a 7 year old. It was an absolutely wonderful holiday, for each of us. We love small, intimate, nature-oriented lodges, and have stayed at many, including some of the world's best in Southern Africa. Hamanasi compares with the finest of these, in accommodations, food, activities, access to amazing nature, and service.

Everyday there was something engaging to do, for both my husband and I, and for both of our boys. The diving and snorkelling is spectacular and the team at Hamanasi is expert, safety oriented, knowledgable and so friendly. The inland adventures are fun and really showcase the beautiful nature, the incredible history, and the detailed knowledge of the local guides. We got into the incredibly therapeutic habit of going to bed early and getting up with the sun.

The staff are as gracious and friendly as so many of the posts on this site suggest (we were a bit skeptical before arriving!) They make sure every detail is attended to, but doing it in such a charming, relaxed and friendly way. They go the extra mile, and make you feel that you enjoying your holiday is the most important thing in their day.

Our accommodations were spotless, and accommodated our family well. They have a wonderful blend of local decor, but meet a high international standard.

From first to last, a wonderful place to stay.

We just returned from 8 glorious days at Hamanasi. The resort is beautiful, but the service is what made it truly exceptional. Everyone knows your name from day one and strives to make your experience perfect. Birding with Golden was amazing. We went with him twice and saw about 125 different species of birds. The snorkeling was tremendous as well. There were lots of fish, but, for us, the highlight was the pristine coral. Unlike most places we have snorkeled in the Caribbean, this coral was actually alive and healthy. I never knew there were so many different kinds. We also went fishing one day and brought our catch back to Hamanasi where they prepared it for us for dinner. If you're looking for a combination of fun activities coupled with relaxing on the beach or at the pool with a good book, this is the place to do it.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the tree house rooms and loved it. They are very quiet and secluded, but if you...

Hamanasi exceeded my expectations. Where to even begin... I have stayed in some of the best, most luxurious hotels in the world and Hamanasi blows them all away. The staff is wonderful. They ooze the graciousness of Belizian people, they remember your name and will acomodate all your requests without being overbearing or fake. Quite the contrary actually. They are genuine and kind. Our tour guides were wonderful and very knowledgeable. Golden, a guide we had several times, was probably one of the top 5 greatest things about Hamansi--and believe me, there are many, many great things about Hamanasi. The grounds of the resort were stunning; the adventures/activities were so awesome you could spend a year there and not do everything you wanted. They really encourage you to get out and get moving. We were hiking and very active the entire trip yet there was still plenty of downtime to relax, curl up with a book and take in some sun. The food is incredible. INCREDIBLE. I did not have a single bad meal.

I rarely go on vacation and say to myself afterwards, "I'm definitely going back there." After all, there are so many places to visit in the world. I will say this though, I absolutely plan to return to Belize and to Hamanasi and my experience at the stunning resort has a lot to do with that decision.

My wife and I returned to Hamanasi with our adult children. We really like this place; it was even better than last year. They have perfected the "secret sauce" of a pervasive, gracious service culture which overlays the adventure and leisure opportunites unique to Belize.
The resort is a self-contained and intimate portal to the ocean, jungle, and the amazing geographic and cultural mix that is Belize. The SCUBA, snorkel exoeriences were led by great dive staff who mixed "safety first" and "have fun" on the remarkable offshore reef. The birding and inland adventure staff were knowledgable and passionate about their subjects and their interest in teaching us. The proximity to national parks provides quick access to jungle rainforest habitat and the eye-opening Mayan experiences are a tolerable 2 hour van ride. The night jungle hike , complete with kinkajou and tapir sightings, was memorable for its "wow" contrast to our daytime world.
The food and beverages were varied, usually included choice of a local dish, appropriately portioned, well-presented and delicious. Our vegetarians felt looked after and more than satisfied.
The "sand flies" are a bit of a nuisance. Most of us had very little trouble using DEET and some little trouble without DEET.
I do know there are many beautiful places in Belze and probably other resorts with nice accommodations, good food and access to nature. But the secret sauce here is the staff and its service culture. They were never solicitous or obsequies but always gracious and helpful. This staff has never met a "dumb question" or an "unreasonable request."

Room Tip: There are no bad ones. We preferred the beachfront to the "treehouse" versions

We had such a wonderful week at Hamanasi! The setting and the facilities are beautiful and the staff was exceptional. There was so much to do, we couldn't fit everything in to one short week. The guides provided by the resort were all very knowledgeable and did everything they could to create a memorable experience. We did several kinds of excursions including snorkeling, birding, kayaking, and the Mayan ruins. All were really great. We greatly enjoyed returning to the resort after the trips for wonderful dining and accomodations. We had the opportunity to stay in both a treehouse and a beachfront. Both were beautiful. It was really nice not to have to move around during our week. Staying in one location was much more relaxing and we felt we got to see a lot of the surrounding areas during the excursions.

Room Tip: Most people seem to like the treehouses. We liked the beachfront better because we could lay in the...
