Our first visit to SA and our first trip out of Cape Town. Reviews were good so we were quite excited about our two day safari at Sambona but we were totally blown away by the experience.

We arrived at lunchtime and were made extremely welcome. The room was stunning and overlooked a waterhole which was frequently visited by girafe and baboons.
As many others have mentioned, this is a large area and the emphasis is very much on keeping the animals in as close to their natural environment as possible, All the rangers were passionate about conservation and worked closely together to provide guests with viewing opportunities but with minimal disruption and impact on the wildlife.

It was a delight to see the animals in their natural environment but our Ranger Nico's knowledge of the whole natural environment really added to the experience. One of the highlights was an excursion from the vehicles on foot to observe a big cat close up. Sundown drinks from a makeshift bar on the front of the truck really made the evening.

The accommodation and food was superb and nothing was overlooked. We will be returning as soon as possible and will probably stay longer. Haven't stopped talking about it since arriving home.

We spent 3 nights at Sanbona and loved every moment. We arrived early at the main gate and were advised to drive ourselves to Tilney Manor - so glad we did as it prepared us for the landscape and terrain.
Our suite was large and very comfortable with indoor and outside showers and was very well appointed. A bottle of sparkling wine was a welcoming touch.
The food was excellent quality and service was very efficient and staff very friendly.
The game drives far exceeded our expectations - our ranger Josh made our dreams come true by waiting patiently and locating wonderful situations such zebras, giraffes, elands etc.coming down to the watering hole with lions observing from the bushes. We saw so many different animals in their pure natural surroundings which was both raw and emotional. The 'sundowner' (drinks and nibbles) at 6pm whilst looking out over the plains with the sun setting was magical.
Sanbona for us was a truly unforgettable experience and will stay with us.

It was with mounting excitement that we drove through the gates to Sanbona! One night at Dwyka and two nights at Gondwana... Our friends had never been on safari before, so were visiting Sanbona on our recommendation (no pressure!). They had flown into the airstrip, so were waiting at Dwyka. We set off on our first game drive, and almost immediately saw giraffe, zebra and rhino... Dwyka is amazing - comfy tents with all mod cons (and outdoor jacuzzi) the middle of an amazing landscape. Gondwana is a little more family friendly than Dwyka, and we were welcomed back by the amazing Henrietta. Game drives were, as ever, incredible - even in the drought. To see a cheetah with a fresh kill less than 5 feet away, to have 12 elephants enjoying their evening snack as if we were not there, to have lions walking past the truck, rhinos snoozing a matter of feet away...all the incredible animals shown in their natural habitat was enough to bring tears of happiness. Thank you Sanbona...we will be back!!!

We booked to stay at the Sanbona wildlife reserve Explorer Camp in February 2018, and had the greatest time.
Casper, our ranger, was so friendly and knowledgable - answering all our questions and really tailoring o ur experience to the interests of our small group of 4 people (two separate couples) and also the weather.
The Camp itself was beautifully run by Desmond, and featured a glorious outdoor shower, 'glamping' tents, dining area, lounge area - everything you could wish for.

Whilst on Safari we were lucky enough to see so many different animals (too many to list), and being a walking safari we got a really good feel for how these animals act in the true wild.

The reserve is very well run and I will recommend it to all my family and friends without hestiation. Our only regret was that we didn't book another night in a lodge to extend our trip!

We visited the reserve and enjoyed 4 game drives. We spotted most of the big five excluding the leopard. The terrain is beautiful and unique. The staff are excellent very knowledgeable about the area and the animals and flora which is found on the reserve. The roads are well maintained allowing easy access to all parts of the reserve. We stayed in a private lodge and cannot comment on the accommodation supplied on the reserve.
