I cannot fault White Lion Lodge. We absolutely loved it. From the amazing staff to the incredible food and the out of this world rooms, what is there to complain about?!

White Lion Lodge is host to 4 double suites with a central building that has a lounge, with a roaring fire, kitchen and dining area. We ended up renting out the whole place (without realising) as we’d got all 4 suites. The pool area is perfect for sunbathing during your days when you’re not on a drive.

Israel and Gerry were both so knowledgeable and couldn’t do enough for us. They made our stay so special. Especially, as Israel went out of his way and 3 occasions to make sure we saw the lions. And on the 3rd go we managed it! Our party saw all 6 and they walked right by the truck – just amazing. Israel taught us all so much – including about the vegetation. It makes getting up at 5am somewhat easy.

The rooms are so beautiful and private. Absolutely loved the outdoor shower. Drinking a glass of wine in the enormous bath while looking out into the reserve was a little surreal.

The food was some of the best we had during our entire stay in SA. We loved trying all the different meats. The Kudu carpaccio was my favourite. Portion sizes were great for us – not too big but definitely big enough. An extra huge portion of food is also put into the middle of the table in case you’ve got a bigger appetite. 3 courses every night and each course was to die for. Everything was all inclusive in the price, which made the value for money outstanding.

We would all come back here in a heartbeat!

My car broke down on the way and we called three times to keep the manager posted on our arrival time after having to find a mechanic to leave my car and rent a car. We arrived 30 minutes after the departure of the first 3-hours game drive and despite my multiple calls explaining the situation and our progress, nothing was organised for us to be able to catch up with the other four guests. We just had to seat there until diner time. So for this price, the service is rather impersonal and the direction does not get out of their way at all to accommodate their clients. (We also were asked to pay the full price while we missed both lunch and one game drive out of two, pretty rough).

It was a bit tricky to get there, but worth everything.
From the arrival till the departure it was fantastic.
From breakfast till dinners, everything made with love.
As gluten intolerant they prepared the food separately, looked the same and probably tasted just as good as the others food.
The service was outstanding, laying by the pool I was asked if I would have anything to drink or anything else needed.
The rooms huge with an outdoor shower. A bathroom with a shower as well as a bath tub. Walk-in-closet. A big balcony facing the mountains. Worth dying for.
In the evenings they made the room and gave us some snack and a bottle of wonderful wine to enjoy while watching the stunning view.
The game drives where great. Israel took very good care of us. We didn't se all of the big five. The morning tour took around seven hours so only my husband joined. I felt lazy by sipping a GT by the pool.
The evening drive was more up to my liking, three hours with som snack and wine.
Thank you Gerry for taking care of us and pass the regards to all others. We will come back

This is just what you hope to experience in South Africa, how luxurious and tasteful! Gerrie is the perfect manager, Israel the perfect ranger! And they have a very good cook, which is really great after all the game and nature drives!
The rooms are romantic and have a wonderful interior, and Sanbona Nature Reserve gives you giraffe, Zebra, Oryx, White Lions, Rhinoceros, Elephants , Elans etc

Room Tip: Every room is perfect
