“saw 4 kiwis in the rain, stinky visit”
Reviewed 8 January 2012

we also saw kiwis at the Maori Cultural centre in Rotorua. There were more kiwis to see here (3 brown, 1 large spotted) and it better lighting (for us). We got to see them at feeding time and got to see the woman doing the feeding being attacked by the bird, Atu. Very amusing. They rotate their kiwis on display so if you go you may only see two - during their dark/lights off time. It was a rainy day in NZ and perhaps that is why it was stinky. Mostly smelled like urine in many parts of the park - you walk around outside to see lots of different birds. The Kea and the kaka birds were also interesting to see. Also got to see the oystercatcher outside the Coromandel. Maybe even saw a white one....or maybe that's another bird. for 20 NZD its a little pricey for what you get. but everything in this country is not cheap.
With the rain, it was nice to see everyone being able to use the Kiwi house's umbrellas on loan during their walk. A lot of the walk is covered by trees so we didn't get too wet with our rainjackets. I liked seeing the goldfinches and the pukeko. Glad to have the chance to see all these birds here.

“Best place to see kiwis in NZ (apart from the wild obviously!)”
Reviewed 1 January 2012

You get real close to the kiwis. Make sure you time your visit to the feeding times

“You really get to see a Kiwi”
Reviewed 31 December 2011

Great to see the kiwi bird live and other endangered birds and reptiles.
It was pouring down when we visited, so it was great that there were free umbrellas available to use. When walking thru the aviary we were lucky and just caught up with one of the very friendly ladies that was feeding the birds and reptiles. Our kids even got to feed a parakeet that sat on there hand. The other good thing was that the lady pointed out a couple of the reptiles that we otherwise wouldn't have seen. Probably a good additional service for the park to add.
The price for a family is very reasonable. It takes about an hour.

“Kiwis alone worth the cost”
Reviewed 16 November 2011

Given that it is almost impossible to see wild kiwis this is a great, if not expensive, opportunity to see the iconic bird and some of their feathered bretheren close up. The design and aly out of the place are quite simple and as I mentioned it's an expensive per-hour cost, but there are some excellent views of a wide range of unusual avi-fauna.....
