We stayed here as a family of 6 at the end of July, beginning of Aug 2018. This has to be the best accomodation in Porthmadog - I can highly recommend it!
The location is just perfect. Very quiet with stunning, ever-changing views.
The property is fully equipped with all you need for a truly memorable holiday experience - the open-plan kitchen, living area is "massive" and the views from the wall to wall windows are amazing.
The bedrooms are great too - all en suite and very luxurious.
The living/games room was a hit with our 4 children (ages 17, 16 and twins of 12) on days when the sun decided not to shine!
We visited Black Rock Sands, walked up Snowdon (Pyg track on way up, Miners track on way down), took the steam train from Porthmadog to Caernarvon (where we visited the castle), and tried Canyoning for the first time - I would highly recommend all of these activities, which were all within easy reach of this Stunning Boathouse.
Our expectations were high - but not high enough! We were a family of 7 and ½ and there was more than plenty of space for everybody in this large, nicely decorated and extremely well-equipped house.
The Welsh weather surprised us by not only staying completely dry but also providing the highest temperatures in the UK (i.e. between 29 and 31 degrees all week) - so most of the time we were all out on the first-floor deck, watching either the sailors or simply the results of the changing tides. (We printed a tide table before coming). When a full orange moon appeared right across from the balcony above Snowdonia, everything was almost unbearably beautiful!
We flew from Denmark to Manchester and went around by excellent public transport - and in and around Porthmadog in Steve Lane's taxi, a contact provided by Sue, who was very, very helpful, right from our first questions about the house.
We went shopping at Tesco's and bought a shopping trolley (now in the house) to avoid having to carry food and drink for 7 and ½. The walk into town is quite nice and we all walked this route every day with no problem at all.
There is a nice food market every Saturday: we got bread, sausages and cheeses of very good quality there.
We enjoyed the ride on the Ffestiniog Railway (but found the town at the end rather dull) and also enjoyed the ride on the British Rail train to Harlech - where we recommend the Cemlyn Tearoom, the Old Cheese Market and (of course) the castle, with magnificent views across the water to the Boathouse!
The house and location are fantastic and we loved every minute of our stay - and would like to thank Sue and Clive for making everything run so smoothly.
We really enjoyed the Boathouse. It exceeded all our expectations: The facilities the location, the spectacular view and easy access to Porthmadog town centre with a 15 minute walk. Everything has been thought of in advance including a generous welcome pack. There are four separate, high standard bedrooms each with en-suite toilet and shower. An extra two guests can sleep in the games room if required.
There is parking for 4 cars ( 5 at a push).
In our opinion nothing has been spared in providing a warm, comfortable and enjoyable stay.
