“Beautiful House in Quiet Town”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Casa Dorotea is a beautiful house, well equipped with everything you will need for your stay. The owners are very accommodating and even set up a comfortable double bed in the lounge to accommodate the 8 of us. The terrace is gorgeous and we had many meals/drinks on it. The pictures you see on the web site are accurate and the house is even better looking than the pictures. Our wifi was not working properly for several days and the owners sent a technician to repair it. You are in a peaceful location if you are looking for that. A 15 minute walk will lead you to the nicest beach in the Sorrento area, but this also attracts many young people from other towns, so be prepared for it to be very crowded. This also crowds up the local trains with young locals, especially on the weekends and some are not as well behaved as others. The train which takes you into Sorrento is a 10 minute walk away, only takes about 10 minutes to reach Sorrento and only costs €1,30 (€1,00 on the weekend), but these trains are crowded and and stop running at 9:00 in the evening, regardless of the day of the week. This was a drawback as we often went into Sorrento in the evening as there is nothing to do in Meta. Even though we are not ones to stay out late, we found that the early end to the trains problematic as we would often rush through late dinners in Sorrento to catch the last train. The bus runs a little later, but is often crowded and takes longer as it has to go through 2 towns first (Piano di Sorrento and Sant'Agnello). Taxis are more expensive. The same train running in the opposite direction will take you to Pompeii in 20 minutes (€2,30) and Naples in 45 minutes (€2,90). All in all, if you like quiet towns where you are among locals and can retreat early in the evenings, Meta is the town for you and I would definitely recommend Casa Dorotea. But if you like to be closer to a place with evening activities where you can catch late meals or stroll through the streets popping in and out of shops, grabbing a gelato, Meta may be TOO quiet for you.

“Sorrento Villa...better than expected”
Reviewed 26 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We and 2 other couples stayed at Casa Dorotea in Meta di Sorrento a suburb of Sorrento. It was beyond our expectations in every way. For those who may read this, "the pictures do not present the beauty of the villa and how well it is decorated". We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the villa as we entered from the neighborhood.

The villa was beautifully appointed with the furniture and decorations. The larger than expected veranda was our center of use and had the most beautiful sunsets over the bay. We were very pleased with the kitchen and the equipment and eating utensils compared to another villa we had stayed in prior to arriving at Casa Dorotea. We were especially surprised and pleased with the selection of wine glasses that the owners provided.

Although we could not park close to the villa and had to walk a short distance with our luggage, we turned our car in and used the close by train station for our transportation. The train station provided us with excellent convenience to get around the area and only took us 5-10 minutes to get to. Note regarding train schedules, they are only 'guestimates'. Don't rely on their accuracy. However they run fairly often, so it is not normally an issue.

The only thing we would caution other renters would be to not try to find the villa on their own. Our GPS would not recognize the address and we were struggling to find the villa until we finally called Carmine for assistance. As soon as we called him, he met us and guided us to the villa. My advice would be to call Carmine as soon as you reach the Sorrento area. He will be able to find you wherever you are and take you to the villa.
