“What a place to be!”

The pictures on the web site are nice – but the reality is (much) better.
What a great location, perfect for us as a family. We do not like busy tourist locations, but it should not be completely isolated either. Matemwe is a non-touristic village/location with some simple shops for convenience shopping (e.g. fruit, water, soft drinks, eggs), hotels and restaurants.
The house is spacious and exactly as shown in the pictures, so no surprises here with a great pool and the quiet beach only a few meters away and not to forget the great terrace with the view on the ocean.
See the other positive reviews for details as they described it already nicely.
What we loved was turning left or right on the beach to walk 7 – 20 minutes to our restaurant of choice for the day. Being it for breakfast, lunch or dinner (we did not cook ourselves).
And then the very friendly and helpful owners that gave use all the support needed, both upfront and during our stay. They make you feel welcome and at home, including good advice on the restaurants available, car rental and scuba diving or snorkeling.
We were lucky to have a long stay (10 days) and can only strongly recommend Villa Tulia and hope we can enjoy it once again ourselves.

“Pictures are genuine, even nicer in reality”

The location is amazing, Matemwe is a non-touristic village on the east coast of Zanzibar and Vila Tulia is tucked away between the green ribbon of bush and palm trees that hug the powdery white sand beach. You’ll need to rent a car to get there and around.
The house has 3 big bedrooms, each with their own bathroom and shower, a large living room and large kitchen. Outside a large terras with table and a private swimming pool. The owners description is accurate and pictures are less nice than reality.
A cleaning lady is passing by daily making up the beds and wiping floors to get the beach sand out, the pool is cleaned daily, and a couple of Maasai guard the property 24x7.
Groceries is a bit of a challenge as the there are very few “supermarkets” around and the few that are there are limited in choice. Buy fruit and vegetables at the many street stalls on the roads, western things should be bought in better stocked supermarkets in Zanzibar city. Nungwi, 25 min away has a bakery and 2 small supermarkets that have some stuff.
Very good communication with the owners upfront, good information brochure, and in case of questions the owners are available to help and live next door most of the time.
Strongly recommended.

If you like to be in a beautiful and quiet location, this place is ideal for you. I definitely was looking for something like that! No more than 20 meters from our residence there is a wide and beautiful white beach. I loved sitting on the terrace, contemplating a gorgeous view of the ocean. The bungalow is nicely decorated and very comfortable even for six people. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Nearby, on the beach, there is a small restaurant run by Muhammed who serves simple and delicious food. We also visited Marina, a surprisingly peaceful, beautiful resort with bungalows, swimming pools and great bars and restaurants. They have a diving and snorkeling centre and organize trips to a coral reef with instructors. They made my reef snorkeling a fantastic experience, giving me all the opportunities to admire the beauty of the reefs and feel safe at the same time. After snorkeling, it was great to have an excellent dinner and a very special passion fruit drink☺

“Perfect place for a quiet and relaxing vacation”
Reviewed 22 December 2017 for a stay in November 2017

Ten days spent at Villa Tulia was like a dream: a quiet, relaxing and rejuvenating vacation on the most beautiful, clean and white, soft sand Matemwe beach.
The nicely decorated, comfortable and well equipped house is both secluded and right on the beach. The accommodations are perfect for up to 6 people. The very friendly owners next door, access to a refreshing swimming pool and a short distance to a local bar as well as to a wonderful beach-based restaurant at Mohamed's, make this a destination that we want to go back to.
Great place to relax and to observe the fishing village local beach life taking place in front of ones eyes.
