I did a lot of research on different dive centers located in Nungwi before my trip to make sure I selected the best option. Spanish Dancer Divers is one of the few PADI accredited dive centers in Nungwi. The service is great - they were easy to contact via email or even WhatsApp.
Price: Their price is slightly higher than other dive centers, but that’s because they include all equipment as well as snacks and water for the trip. Other dive centers may charge less for dives, but then when you rent equipment, it makes up for the difference. However, if you book for dives with Spanish in advance, you get 10% off and rental of equipment remains included. There are a few other dive centers that also offer a discount when you book early, but you have to pay a deposit. With Spanish Divers, no deposit is required. All you need to do is confirm your dives before 2PM the day before you plan to dive with them so they can make sure they have the right size BCDs for you. Definitely worth it! I also like that you settle your bill at the end of all your dive holiday.
Refresher course: Spanish provides free refresher courses if you haven’t dived in more than 6 months. I think this is a lovely touch as some other dive centers charge you for it.
Equipment: the equipment was in great condition. They also make sure to bring some spares on the boat so that if there is anything wrong with yours, you can change it.
Boat: my research showed that some dive centers use boats with lower engine power. As a result, it may take 1 to 2 hours to get to dive sites like Mnemba Island. With Spanish, they have a speed boat that takes you to Mnemba in just 40 minutes. This is a great option if you are sensitive to motion sickness.
Dives: we did 6 dives with Laurie who was super awesome! We had maximum 4 divers per dive master - which is nice and intimate and allowed you to see all the lovely creatures that were being pointed out. All the instructors were lovely! I felt a bit sick after my first dive and the instructors tried their best to help me feel better. Special mention to Margeau who offered me a motion sickness tablet before my 2nd day of diving. I suggest taking these if you are prone to motion sickness as the resting intervals are on the boat. When we were there, we did 2 dives in the morning. This is great because it allows you to relax and enjoy the other half of the day.
Snacks: Bottled water and snacks between dives are provided. We had oranges and pineapples which were delicious! But the donuts.... wow!!! They should come with a disclaimer because after you have one you won’t be able to stop.
Had a lovely time with Spanish and highly recommend them. Their equipment and dive instructors are top notch and I like that the price is inclusive of everything so that there are no nasty surprises at the end.
