“A great welcome”

This is a lovely welcoming place. The owners cannot do too much and were very helpful sorting out the cinema and so on. The breakfast is delicious and everything is home made and charming. It's an easy walk to town and has lovely views.

I had a great stay at Black Peak whilst touring the South Island. I wanted to stay in a relaxed spot a short walk from town. The house was spotless, well appointed with a superb fireplace to relax after a day of exhausting outdoor activities... not to mention the hot spa with a view looking down the lake.
My hosts were a wealth of local knowledge, friendly, relaxed and added to the enjoyment of my stay...

I escaped from the hustle and traffic of the DC area to the farthest place I dared travel for a reprieve... and I found it in Wanaka. The hosts were friendly and I enjoyed the time I spent with them. We even went out on Lake Wanaka for a little fishing, photography time and a small picnic on a private beach! The garden was beginning to bloom and the weather was just perfect for sitting on the deck in the sun. The best part (other than the view and hospitality) was the homemade cheese scones with English tea. Thank you for the warm, clean and bright rooms, the quiet time, yummy food and amazing company.

What a fabulous place. Hosts were superb with never ending hospitality and their knowledge of the local places and environment was great. Great local wine and food.
Beds and rooms were very comfy and worth every single penny. Would stay again in a heart beat. Just out of the town but an easy walk.

I looked at so many places in Wanaka trying to find accommodation and finally gave up and settled on Black Peak LODGE. Imagine our surprise when it was someone's house in a neighborhood. My fault for not being more diligent. But it was BY FAR the most expensive place we stayed and least favorite - we stayed in so many great places in NZ for less than half the cost. It's one thing to stay in a B&B (we've stayed in several) but this was like booking a night at your neighbor's next door and paying WAY too much for it. The room was fine, nothing special. Our hostess was very nice, treating us to wine and snacks. But I felt taken advantage of with the price charged. We could have stayed in an actual LODGE (we stopped in to check it out) that was just lovely, on the lake, and paid less.

We are, sadly, really grateful you have posted a review despite its negative nature. We advertise very clearly that we are a Bed and Breakfast hosted accommodation and that we are a 'home away from home'. Our images show our rooms accurately and we believe we delivered the service we promise on our website. I am sad you did not say anything to us at the time of your stay and quote from your comment in our visitors book; 'lovely stay'. I would welcome your advice on how we could have improved your experince with us and the changes we could make to ensure a superb service. In the years we have been offering our service yours is the only negative comment we have had. In closing could I please respectfully ask that should you have a problem in the future with any accommodation please tell your hosts. We would have been more than happy to discuss your situation with you and resolve it amicably. Unfortuanely we did not get the chance.
