“Relax and Enjoy”
Reviewed 21 September 2012

The Sheraton Fiji is a very relaxing resort. All the amenities are there and lot's of shopping at the hotel itself.

Overall the resort is a bit dated - the rooms are a bit run down so I recommend if you want luxury to make sure you upgrade to a suite or perhaps try another newer resort in Denarau. The staff are efficient though not friendly...my friend actually had one of the staff lie about faxing an important document which was very disappointing.

We did love the beach restaurant and had quite a fun evening of great food and drink.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us following your recent stay. I am happy that you enjoyed aspects of your stay, but am disappointed that we did not meet all of your expectations. Rest assured I will follow up with my team regarding the fax document. Please accept my apologies.
We hope to see you on your next visit to Fiji.

Stayed in a room by the bar. Asked on phone at 20:00 when band would stop: 23:30. It was loud and could not sleep. Went to bar at approx 21:30 to talk to bar manager: was told "should not have gotten a room by the bar if i wanted to sleep." 23:40 - left the room and stayed elsewhere.

If I was not working the next day I would have been there with the rest, however, I was.

Room Tip: Not by the bar!

This was our 2nd time round staying at the Sheraton. On both of these occasions we were there on "business conference duties". This isnt the second time we have been to Denerau Fiji as we have stayed at the Hilton Beach Resort & Spa,Sofitel, Vomo Island resort and the Sonasali resort. The latest Sheraton visit was 2 years apart from our last stay and they have obviously revamped their accomodation units. Nothing luxurious but hygenically clean tidy & comfortable. The 'Feast' room or dining area has been renovated and a much improved look from the tired terracota color it once was. Fijian hospitality is always welcoming and their standard of service still becoming but far superior to Rarotonga. My only complaint of these hotel establishments in Denerau is that the charges for room service, alcohol and food are rather exorbitant and you might want to venture into Nandi and look for a Japanese Restaurant called Daikoku or the Nandi Farmers Club and enjoy quality food at quality prices!!

we stayed here for 6 nights as part of a large conference finished last week

overall the resort is pretty average and a bit run down in places

staff is very friendly but not the sharpest an fastest on there feet

i had $300 go missing from room on second night which was promptly complained about. security from resort and local police were not able to solve the issue, which i was a bit bummed about.

it was not first time i had stayed in a resort or hotel but it id definitely first time someone has stolen from my room, learned a expensive lesson and all cash passports etc must go in safe in future

also on a side note everything from food to activities is unreasonably expensive which was a unanimous opinion across all 180 delegates involved in our conference

My husband and I got married at the Sheraton Resort Fiji on Denarau Island in June 2012. We had approx. 40 guests staying at the hotel also. We stayed at the Sheraton for 11 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, our guests did too. June, July or August really is the best time to go. It rained a few short showers on a couple of days and then one day there was a storm but apart from that the weather was beautiful. Staff are extremely friendly and every single staff member says Bula to every guest they see. They say it that much that they must get sick of saying it :) We would like to say a big thankyou to our Wedding Coordinator at the Sheraton, Akanisi Resina. Akanisi is an amazing woman who helped not only plan our wedding to be the most perfect day but also helped make our holiday for ourselves and our guests an enjoyable experience.

Overview of Denarau Island - Denarau Island is approx. 10-15 minutes drive from the main Nadi airport. It is an island attached to the mainland by a bridge which homes approx. seven 4 and 5 star resorts. All of these resorts are situated along the coastline and are attached to the massive golf course on the island. A lot of people have the misconception that all of fiji is white sand and blue water like they have seen on TV. People need to realise that the beaches are a yellow/brown colour and the water is not that crystal clear blue water you see on tv but that doesn't matter as the ocean still looks nice and the resort pools are there for swimming. The white sand and the clear blue water is found out at the fijian islands and the price difference reflects this. Nadi town is very run down and if you have been to Bali or Phuket then the town is similar. However, Denarau Island is nothing like that. Denarau Island is an amazing place and once you have been to Fiji you will never want to go back to Bali ever again.

The Sheraton is also connected to the Sheraton Denarau Villas which are apartment style rooms and do cost more as they are self contained. These are good for families. The next hotel along which is also connected to the Sheraton is The Westin Denarau Resort & Spa. The Westin is just as good as the Sheraton as far as we are aware. We had guests stay at both hotels and all were pleased with their accommodation. The good thing about these resorts being connected is that you can use the facilities at all anytime you like. The pools are all really nice. They could do with being a little warmer and perhaps staying open a little later as they close the pools quite early but were still nice to swim in. The Westin Spa is really good also for massages and if you want to pamper yourself but can be a bit pricey. Well worth it though.

Rooms - My husband and I stayed in an Ocean Front room. This room was the third room up. The standard room is an Ocean Breeze room. You cannot see the ocean from these rooms. The next room up for about $20 extra is an Ocean View Room. These rooms you can only just see the ocean from afar. The next room up is an Ocean Front Room and for a further $20 or so it is well worth staying in the Ocean Front rooms particularly if you are a couple. Watching the sunset from the balcony of your room makes these rooms well worth it. The rooms are cleaned daily and are very modern.

Food and Drink - Buffet breakfast is served daily at Feast restaurant. The buffet is absolutely massive and the food is great. There is literally everything you can imagine for breakfast even pizza. It was always fresh and tasted fantastic. The same restaurant do a evening dinner buffet also which was good but for a family with young kids or children would end up being quite expensive. As part of our stay, all guests received a 50% voucher to use on their first night at the restaurant which is handy if you fly in late and is a good deal. There is another fine dining restaurant called The Flying Fish which is really nice, particularly if you are a couple. It is very romantic right on the front of the restaurant as this is situated actually on the sandy beach. The food is the same price as what you would pay for fine dining in Australia and tastes fantastic. There is a sandwich and light lunch shop in the lobby and there are also some shops which have sweets such as icecreams, chocolate and alcohol. These shops are expensive so if you want cheaper alcohol or goods, walk out the front of the Sheraton down the road and there is a cheaper shop. For even cheaper alcohol take a trip into town. It is a lot cheaper and taxi's are very cheap also. Room service is what you would expect to pay at a 5 star hotel but does take a bit longer as everyone is on 'Fiji time'. The highlight of the hotel besides the buffet breakfast is a bar called Chime Bar. It's particularly good if you are travelling with a group or friends and family as a meeting place. We met up with our guests everyday for Happy Hour before dinner and this was a good way to catch up with people and also head out at night with them. The cocktails are amazing and the chairs are all lounge day beds type chairs which is very relaxing and fun. Happy Hour is from 5:30-6:30pm and then again at 9:30-10:30pm (something like that). There are other good restaurants and bars at The Westin etc. that you can walk to along the beach to and are well worth checking out. The Denarau Marina or Port is where all the boat tours depart from. This is also where there are several other restaurants. Hard Rock Cafe is at the marina and the staff at the Hard Rock Cafe are fabulous! It is only a $5-$10 FJD taxi drive from the Sheraton to the marina as well so is very cheap.

NOTE - Don't take too much cash (fijian dollars) as pretty much everything food and drink wise gets charged back to your room. There is also an ANZ ATM at the Sheraton near the lobby to withdraw cash.

Activities - There is so much to do in Fiji and everyting can be booked at the hotel when you arrive. There is a tour bookings desk at the lobby where you can book literally everything. The hotel also has a daily program of free activities. They have kava ceremonies in the lobby and at night also do a fire warrior show just outside the Chime Bar and Fest restaurant. There is a kids club which is fantastic. My 5 year old niece came with us and she loved every minute of the kids club. It was packed with children of all ages, they did lots of interesting activities and the ladies are really nice and good with the kids. There is also a nanny service at night in the hotel rooms if needed. There is a whole heap of water sports you can do by going to the Adrenalin desk along the beach near Feast restaurant. If you are a couple and want to get away for a few hours, Sheraton and Westin have their own private island. You can take a boat out to the island and room service can provide you with a picnic lunch OR their are a few locals on the island which will catch fresh fish for you for a small fee. For snorkelling you will need to book a cruise/tour out to the fijian islands. The Whales Tales cruise is fantastic. For approx. $100 AUD you get snacks and alcohol all day on the schooner type boat. The staff are fantastic, fun and sing all day. You get a buffet lunch at the cruise companies island and snorkelling is done here. They are very eager to give everyone as much alcohol as possible too which was good :) If you have a group of people this would be a particularly fun cruise as it was for us.

Weddings - If you are thinking of having a wedding in Fiji. DO IT! We chose Fiji as none of our guests had been to Fiji and it was a beautiful tropical destination that was different to the normal Bali or Phuket. Like all weddings, the wedding could be simple and cheap or more expensive depending on what you want. There is a dedicated wedding team at the Sheraton which will plan everything for you prior to your arrival via email or phone. I planned my entire wedding via email with a fantastic woman called Akanisi Resina. Aka did everything we asked and more. She even had some fantastic ideas of her own that we loved. I had heard mixed reviews about weddings in Fiji prior to our arrival particularly those with a larger number of guests and bigger weddings. I had heard that not everything is always organised when the bride and groom arrive, however as soon as we met Akanisi all of our worries went straight out the window. Every single detail had been organised just as we planned. We cannot thank Akanisi enough and would definitely recommend her services and the services of the wedding team at the Sheraton.

There are several photos attached. We loved staying here and so too did our guests. If you are planning on coming as a couple with no kids then the price of stuff around the hotel probably won't bother you. If you have a family and kids then it could get a bit pricey for you but at the same time is a great place to take the family. We would definitely recommend on staying here and are hoping to go back next year. If you are a couple getting married at the Sheraton or one of the other hotels on Denarau Island, have a look at having your honeymoon on one of the fijian islands. That is what we did and loved every minute of it. Check out my review of Tokoriki Island Resort and Spa :) Enjoy.

Room Tip: The standard room is an Ocean Breeze room. You cannot see the ocean from these rooms. The next room...
