If you find yourself in Matagalpa and are looking for great tasting and SAFE traditional food, this is the perfect stop. As tourists, you always want to stay away from tap water, ice, and raw vegetables. However, here you'll find so many options that you will indulge in delicious meats and vegetarian options available. A huge assortment of TAZO teas, homemade teas, frappucinos, mochas, iced coffees, and smoothies. My family of 12 dinned in and everything we ordered was delicious. The portions are a bit small if you compare to American restaurants but since the price is so inexpensive, you can order as many portions as you like.

My wife and I had lunch at La Pradera. We both ordered the currassco steak and it was excellent. Tender and flavorful. I had a side order of grilled onions and they were delicious. Unfortunately La Pradera has a very limited wine selection. The only suggestion that I can offer is to offer some California red wines. The service was excellent.
Need to have wifi in restaurant.

Ok, so I live here in Matagalpa....but I had yet to ever venture to La Pradera because I have been pretty content with what is in town. I actually checked out TripAdvisor before I went to snoop out the experience of others.

Honestly, this place is an absolute joke. My wife and I literally just came back home from this place. Everything seemed to be fine when we walked in...we were immediately seated, and that is where the good ended. We sat down at a dirty table with fresh liquidy stains on the tableclothes. I asked to have it changed and it was done. Ok, no biggie...even though it is pretty common knowledge not to sit people down at a table with scraps of rice and dirty napkins.

Service was unusual. The waiter was literally standing there like the police next to us as my wife and I were going through the menu; perhaps good attention but sort of intrusive. We ordered a starter of onion rings, a steak (churrasco) and pork on a hot griddle plate (cerdo ala plancha).

The onion rings were cold and essentially raw with only about half of them actually covered in any sort of batter, which was merely flour just quickly coated on them. The flavor was absolutely awful. They were obviously cooked in the same oil that they cooked shrimp...not just in the awful flavor, but there were bits of shrimp tails in them.

The pork came out on a hot iron plate and my wifes churrasco was on a normal plate...with french fries topping the steak which made the flavor of the meat with oily french fry flavor. My pork was literally paper thin and grossly undercooked. Because the plate was several hundred degrees, I allowed it to sit on there for about 5 minutes to finish cooking off after shoveling french fries off of the meat. The flavor was super bland. Essentially we got a small strip of meat and french fries to the tune of 910 cords ($34+)

I wish I could have let the server know, but he never came back until about 25 minutes later when i asked for the bill. He literally provided no service other than taking our initial order...someone else even brought our food. When I paid with my card he was literally standing there like when is my tip. Seriously? We never even saw the guy for more than 30 seconds!

Honestly, nearly every spot in Matagalpa is better than La Pradera....including street food. Bland paper-thin meat topped with french fries with no service for almost $40...please!

I would imagine a lot of the other reviews are based on groups that gave the heads up before they came in. Others must have been deathly hungry and could have eaten a rats rear and been satisfied. I know of a spot that has MUCH BETTER pork and beef with much more food and for 2 people including a drink is only about 180 cords (with drink) and closer the the center of the town.

In closing, I would definitely NOT recommend La Pradera by any means.

Needless to say we will not be back here.

We ate at La Padera with a group of 20 at the end of a mission trip. The food was wonderful and the service was very good as well. I had the carne asada and found it to be tasty. We have eaten there every time that we were in the area.
