Fantastic Similan Travel is a slick outfit. This is tourism on an industrial scale, from the fleet of mini buses ferrying passengers to the colour coding of tourists for individual boats, this organisation runs on volume and you have to be impressed with how well they cope. The new harbour facilities are large, clean and well organised (although someone should tell them that westerners use toilet paper!). They provided a light breakfast, lunch and after tour snacks, and given the number of tourists that they deal with the lunch was quite good quality. Unfortunately the pristine environment of the Similan Islands that everyone comes to experience is in danger of sinking through the sheer weight of number of tourists that Fantastic and a host of other operators bring out to the islands every day. Think of Bangkok in peak hour and you have some idea of the number of boats trying to find space to disgorge passengers onto tiny bays trying to find a spot of sand amongst hundreds of other tourists. The Thai government either needs to open up more of the islands to tourism or limit the number of tourists (the latter seems more sensible). And yes, we had the overly loud, overly repetitive lady boy guide who seems to be the cause of so many complaints, but the real disappointment was that Fantastic Similan failed to deliver what they promised. At the start of the trip we are told we would be going to 4 different islands, however, once we had left the plan changed, and we dropped island No 9 as it was going to be "too crowded" thats despite being told that this was the jewel in the crown, best coral and best snorkelling location. This was, after all a snorkelling trip, thats the reason we were all on the tour, so dropping this without consultation was poor judgement, but I suspect it was more about saving time and money than due to crowds. Despite the large number of tourists the Similan Islands were remarkably clean. This is another area where Fantastic Similan need to lift their game. They dished out an average of 8 plastic cups per passenger on the day trip, rather than giving everyone a bottle of water and providing refills. Their waste management was very poorly organised, filling up small plastic bags with rubbish rather than any organised rubbish collection, and no attempt at recycling. They also failed to provide any education on the environment, fish species or anything else, in fact there was minimal interaction between the crew and passengers. The trip could have, and should have been so much better.

We arrived at this place it was nicely decorated this is only okay about this place... the worst thing that there was a ladyboy don't have anything but shouting and yelling to people giving instructions in awful way ... after we got into the boat with my little (1,2, 2) toddlers and moved I changed my place to the front of the boat and this ladyboy didn't allow me .. I insisted on staying my space in front since nobody was there afterwards he gots angry and returned us back to the pier... it's really shame that they treated us this unpleasant and humiliated way .. later we found better offer in private boat and very wonderful company and guides thanks they returned us back

We went in with pretty low expectations as we read some really bad reviews on TA. We really wanted to do a little snorkeling trip tho and as all the tours seemed to have the same problems or issues, we booked the one that came cheapest, thanks to our hotel discount, at 2100 baht per person. Our low expectations made that we actually really enjoyed this trip. We got picked up by our driver right on time and brought to the a big covered hall next to the pier where a breakfast buffet was set up. We expected a shabby table with some quick snacks but it was actually a full breakfast with different options. After breakfast, your personal ladyboy/tour guide gives you some information and you are off for a quick picture and on to the boat. Do mind: you have to take off your shoes and don't get them back until you return to the pier. If I would have known I'd quickly bought some diving shoes in the shop at the breakfast hall. Anyway, off to the islands with a 1,5h speedboat trip. The sea was pretty rough and the boat smacked down pretty hard more than a couple of times. I don't get seasick (luckily) but some people really needed the plastic bags that were (thankfully ;) handed out up front. You are packed inside the boat so don't really get to see a lot of the trip; kind of a pity. First stop was island 8 for 1h free time and lunch. We already went snorkeling there and saw some interesting fish which caused us to miss lunch so can't comment on that one. Next to island 9, 40 min snorkeling off the boat. Then to island 4 for the same thing. Afterwards to the overcrowded beach for drinks and 1,5h back to the pier. Here we got coffee and dessert (which was basic but ok).
As all the other reviews say: don't expect a private tour. You are packed in a boat with other tourists and end up on islands with even more tourists. We did see some really nice fishes and a rather large octopus and really enjoyed our guide Gaga who did a pretty good job. The whole thing was well organized and timings were respected during the whole day, which is something we really appreciated. I would certainly advise Fantastic Similan Travel for this tour, just know up front what you are signing up for.

Were there with my girlfriend and we were both disappointed. The breakfast was quite boring and tasteless, they should change the juices because all you can sense is suger and no fruit. The boat trip with speedboat was ok, tough I wish they used some kind of speaker when they communicated with us, giving us instructions. Instead the guides were yelling and it was really tiresome with someone yelling all the time, in three different languages, saying the same thing.

The first stop was ok, the snorkeling was bad itself but the organization was ok. Second stop went really fast and we both felt that we had no time to relax and enjoy the fantastic milieu on the island.

Lunch was boring and tasteless, tough it was several different options that could of been a trip for the senses.

Last stop was the best but also felt fast.

Fantastic islands but a bit too fast schedule.
