We have not long returned from a fantastic stay at Villa Godahena and highly recommend it. From the moment we were greeted at the airport with floral wreaths by the wonderful Sampath we felt welcomed. The villa is finished to a very high standard and both the villa and grounds are kept absolutely spotless by the team. Meals were delicious and plentiful! A particular highlight was the barbecue with fresh local fish, prawns and basically anything we fancied!
If you like wildlife and nature, this is the perfect place for you. On our first day, we were treated to the sight of monkeys climbing across the nearby trees and the variety of birds was spectacular too. Eagles soaring above us as we soaked in the pool and kingfishers watching in the trees above, plus visits from the resident peacocks as well as a whole host of other birds really made us feel engaged with our surroundings. Our kids were particularly keen to spot the squirrels and water monitors.
The villa is situated on a big lagoon and the team are expecting the arrival of a new boat very soon which will make the trip into nearby Ambalangoda much quicker. This will also give access to the beach within 15 mins.
We arranged numerous local experiences through Sampath which included the Ambalangoda mask museum, the Kosgoda turtle hatchery and the amazing Madu Ganga River cruise on which we actually saw a crocodile! Hiring a private minibus with a driver was affordable and straightforward and this also permitted us to go further afield to Galle, Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa.
The villa has excellent WiFi for the times when you need to reconnect to the real world. There are a range of books and games available but we had taken our kids favourites along with us.
The return transfer to the airport allowed us to use the newly opened motorway giving a more direct access to the airport meaning it took under two hours to the airport in Colombo.
The team at Villa Godahena really couldn’t do enough for us and we were so sorry to leave at the end of such a fantastic holiday. We will certainly be returning at some point in the future!
