Went to Le Telfair based on recommendation of a co-worker and was very pleased. Even recommended it to a friend before going and they also seemed to love it, quite nerve-wracking as I had never seen it before recommending.

Some of the highlights were based on location, as I had never been to Mauritius before. The weather was ideal. Although it rained almost every day, it really did not impact the holiday as it only lasted a few minutes to an hour and we even stayed in the pool most of the time when it was raining. What I loved was very low humidity and the temperature was in the mid-20s Celsius (70-80 Fahrenheit) so never too hot but never cold. You always wanted to be outside, never felt you needed to escape to the air conditioning. I have heard that other parts of the island are not as temperate and that the north does get quite hot, so was lucky here.

I also loved how the pool and the beach were effectively next to each other. Our kids could go between the two and we could normally watch them just by pivoting our heads. Probably the highlight of the stay, as the beach was great (break was very far out, so could easily walk in and not have to worry). The pool was fantastic, not overly crowded even when the resort was fully booked.

Service was very pleasant. Everyone tried to help, they did a great job of remembering our names. They always tried to accomodate, didn't run into issues where they said it wasn't their job. The assistant manager, Lisa, was particularly helpful as we met her at a manager's reception and she helped us get a restaurant reservation to a fully booked restaurant.

In terms of food, I can understand some of the other complaints about the plans and surcharges but I did not feel it was over the top. We had the half board plan (breakfast and dinner at some restaurants). The breakfast was excellent, particularly the fresh tropical fruit (love the passion fruit) and waffle/pancake bar with multiple toppings. For dinner, the main restaurant, Annabelle, was great and included in the plan. 3 choices of starter, 3 mains and 3 desserts, always a good option available and always great. Indian buffet one night was the best Indian food I ever had.

The other restaurants were largely hit or miss and you had to pay a supplement (sometimes full price). Gin 'ja, the Asian fusion on the resort, is talked about frequently but we found very disappointing. From the rodent scurrying on the floor to the mistakes on almost every dish, just not a great experience.

The Belafon buffet at the sister resort was also disappointing. Typical buffet, nothing exception, and quite costly as there is no supplement.

The steak house at the Golf Club was also a little disappointing. Menu sounded great but steaks were thin and did not compare to a good US or UK steak house.

The Chateau was very good. Formal but excellent food.

Our favorite was the poolside restaurant, Le Palmier. Was planning on skipping lunch but ended up eating every day it was so good. The burgers were as good as you could get in the US. Pizza was very thin crust and tasty. And the grilled lobster and prawns were incredible.

Although the service was good, they could be a little more organized with activities. We got a schedule when we got there but times of the activities had little to do with what was on the schedule. We kept missing things the kids wanted to do because of these inaccuracies.

Despite the small problems, would definitely go again to the Le Telfair. Incredible weather, great service and a beautiful pool/beach.

Room Tip: Sign up for SLH Club and get free late check out.

We staying at Heritage Le Telfair at the end of March for 11 nights as a special treat for a 'significant' birthday. We had the most amazing holiday. The whole resort is fantastic, but the icing on the cake was being upgraded to a Junior Suite, despite arriving on Easter weekend.
The colonial styling of the buildings is unusual, the service is discreet but excellent, and the whole atmosphere is subtle but elegant.
The place is well staffed and there was always someone on hand to attend to our every need. Everywhere was beautifully clean and tidy, and smelt very nice!
The grounds are gorgeous - lush and green - with gardeners tending and tidying all day long.
We had a half-board package. Additional drinks and food were quite expensive, but only as you would expect for a 5-star hotel, which this definitely is.
There were more families than we expected, so we mostly avoided the gorgeous pool, but the beach was quiet and stunningly beautiful.
There is a wide range of activities, including water-sports, most of which are complimentary. DO borrow bicycles and cycle west along the coast road to Le Morne. It is wonderful!
The food was great. The restaurants offer a variety of styles and food experiences. DO visit Le Chateau.
So ... thank you to the whole team for a brilliant holiday, and special mention to Akshay our butler, always discreet, but always appearing when needed, with a charming smile and offer of help.
We heartily recommend this hotel! We give it SIX stars for level of service!

Our family stayed her for 18 days and there are many excellent staff and facilities. We were lucky to be given an upgrade to a senior suite and the use of a butler. Savillen was fabulous and organised our evening meals in a variety of restaurants. Every day he was available to assist us in booking activities, tennis, a dolphin trip and re-organising our meals when we changed our minds. He was polite, courteous and very professional. An asset to the hotel.

We used all three pools, mainly the heated one outside our sea view room. But the others were a nice change for some days.
We were on half board and dined around at Ginjas (good) the steakhouse (great- at the golf club) and the chateau (our favourite was the local venison curry). Don't miss the seashell museum that's just opened at the chateau, our children were fascinated. Breakfast at Annabellas was the usual hotel buffet style, with pretty much everyone's tastes catered for. It was also the main restaurant for the evening meal although we preferred to dine around.

Great trips out of the hotel were the dolphin trip with lifestyle sailing. We all got in with the Dolphins and the lobster barbecue was ridiculous. 4 whole lobsters beautifully grilled between 2 adults, plus what seemed like a whole white fish, chicken and 10 sausages for the children. Wow.

We really enjoyed the 'buggee' ride through Frederica nature reserve. 2 hours off roading with the children to see deer and swim in the waterfall. More like a mini 4x4.

Food at Les Palmiers was beach front joy, loved having my toes in the sand whilst drinking a cold white wine. Special mention to the team there, Mukesh (based in Annabellas but seemed to be in every restaurant) , Kevy and Kevinen were all really helpful and made us feel special.

Other members that were excellent include Ashley at Annabellas looked after us during breakfast.

A good gym with all the usual kit and three tennis courts which had rackets including for the children.

Minus points were that for the first week it was super busy at the hotel during Easter and all staff were rushed off their feet although the hotel specially had rabbits and an Easter egg hunt, for the children.

Watch the current in the sea it was very strong, even for adults. Also if booking to eat at Awali the half board doesn't cover anything.

Overall an amazing eighteen days.

The weather was very disappointing which really restricted the beach use but we still had a fabulous holiday. This was our 3rd time on the Island and our 1st to this resort. This was my favourite of the 3 places we have stayed. The hotel was excellent and everything we had hoped for. Had a beautiful view from our room. The beach and sea were really lovely. We had thought the beach might not be as nice in the south but overall we preferred it to Trou aux Biche and Belle Mare.
The food was excellent and enjoyed eating at the various restaurants over the week. Particularly enjoyed the Chateau and had excellent service there from Alain on two occasions. Also really liked the Ginja though would have liked a bigger portion of lobster at the Lobster Night. However even though the Gourmet Bliss was explained on arrival we found it the most bizarre concept ever. As a couple of examples: Burgers were included in the main resort but not at the golf course, lots of cocktails available at the beach but only a couple at the golf?? Why?? There seemed to be no reason why things were included and others not and there was no continuity over the resort. Some restaurants had a big choice of included items others hardly anything. Please do something about this stupid set up as it really lets the resort down. It is not cheap to add the package so I can't see why you can't include everything apart from a few very expensive items. Another issue we had with the package was that on our last day we were told that we could continue the package until we left the hotel even after checking out our room. When we went to the golf they said we were no longer on the system. On arriving back at the hotel the reception said they had sorted it out and we could go to the Bar for Afternoon Tea and drinks before leaving but again we had a big problem.
The real star of this resort is the golf. It was run very slickly and the course was in excellent condition. We had booked our tee times by email with the hotel in advance. Particularly liked the talk about slow play before you start and most of the time we did not have to wait in between shots.
Would definitely return but hopefully by the time we do the hotel will have sorted out the packages.
